lateralus Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Hi pals My brother just bought a ps2 to go away with to uni. Wondered if there was anyone on the island who does this. I vaguely remember someone having a link in their signature about it. any ideas? Dave
Observer Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 If he's going away to Uni he would be far better off taking it with him and getting it chipped while he's there - he will then have some form of guarantee (usually about three months after installation). That's what I'd do anyway :-)
Mission Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 There's at least two people on the forum that do this. Devil is one, I can't recall the other one though. I'm sure they'll all pop up in here soon enough though.

ans Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Devil does Xboxes. Tree does PS2. Obs: It's illegal. What gurantee can you get for that?
Observer Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 Obs: It's illegal. What gurantee can you get for that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I didn't say it was a legally binding guarantee - just indicated a degree of after sales service.
ans Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 So what recourse would you have if they turned round and told you to gets tuffed? I could offer you a 10 year gurantee on it, because I know I wouldn't have any legal obligation to honour it. Not worth the paper it's scribbled on. Your suggestion to have it done away is good though, he can turn up to any computer fair and have it done on a stall for a cheap price.
Observer Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 So what recourse would you have if they turned round and told you to gets tuffed? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Obviously none - but equally, a possible route to a positive outcome is better than none at all and I think most who made a point of offering it would do their best to uphold it. Certainly better than letting someone tinker with it over here, then drag it a hundred miles or so, only for it to possibly go tits up.
tree Posted September 9, 2004 Posted September 9, 2004 yer id advise getting it done away. also on the guarentee side all u can do is take the persons word for it. Doh. yer it is illegal now and the places i used 2 get chips from have all stopped selling them. so yer search across on the mainland. good luck with it
devil Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 Yo, Yep i only do xbox's and PS2 chipping is illegal. a mate might have some ps2 chips tho but i doubt it. It would propably mean making your own chip, if you wanted your ps2 chipped.
tree Posted September 10, 2004 Posted September 10, 2004 annoyance of changing the disks evrytime u wanted 2 play a game.
lateralus Posted September 10, 2004 Author Posted September 10, 2004 hmm, thanks for the tips guys, i knew it had became illegal but so are most things! ill have a word with my bro, maybe one of his mates knows where to get it done. Yeah, gameshark may be a bit of hassle and my bro is a fussy git!
