Carp Fishing In France

carp fishing is the ultimate for me after fishing the island all my life .. christ they can go.. .. its the ebro in spain im after going to .. best time of year is before the cats get active which is right now i think .. lucky enough its the owners quiet period as their main trade are cats and because its tickover season you can get some great deals on full board river bank sites with fully escorted pre boat baited trips etc plus as much bait as you need with all top quality tackle provided all you need bring is end point gear..

wild river 40lbers are sure to resist coming to the bank more than lake fish i would think .. not experienced enough too know 15/16lb is my best.

mainly fished a lake where the biggest was 22lb .. but they were all put in at the same time so were all 15lb+ and plentiful.

right in the centre of liverpool you would never believe it hidden by tall walls and trees in the grounds of a nuns sanctuary. .. the met police had it stocked all types of fish..

ive caught trout salmon sea trout perch and tench over here but nothing goes like a carp..

fly fishing for pike sounds interesting as well.

My biggest was just under 50lb on a lake in France last year. The boat trip sounds interesting, where is the lake in Liverpool? I'd be up for that one weekend, either that or try and find a good lake in the Chester area.

France or Spain would have to be a minimum of a week, most lakes in France have 50 + pounders. I've also done most of the fishing over here, boat, shore, river and reservoir but nothing can match Carp.

It's such a pity the Islands excuse for not allowing them in is there "sterile status". I mean if someone built a carp pond it's not like the fish can walk to the nearest river or reservoir, dive in and give them whatever disease they're supposed to have, infact whoever stocked a pond or lake would make sure the fish they bought were disease free.....

they let you fish if you stay there.

they do B&B I WENT OVER TO FISH FOR 10 DAYS caps sry .. and stayed there when the place i wanted was full and they told me about the nuns gaff..

i went out on a recce the next day and wet a few maggots on that big park lake down in blackpool it was dead only about a foot of water in it.

got back just in time to see the grounds man leaving so asked him if he kvew anywhere close for the next day .. and he said have you not tried our pool .. i said what pool it really is that well hidden .. i stayed and fished it for 2 days .. and fished it for 2 days on the way back ..

jam packed with carp and tench. and really well shaded you dont even notice all the trffic.. unbelievable in town.

i will find the addy .. you can google earth it.. see the pond..

Water birds spread disease as well as fish eggs from lake to lake. That's why.

Yeah, we were surprised to find a couple of fish in our pond. Couldn't work out how they'd got there until someone told me about birds spreading fish eggs from pond to pond.

I know all that PK but what's stopping it happening now? Or do birds from other jurisdictions give the I.O.M a wide birth?

TBH I have no idea other than ecological balance i.e. once introduced they'll probably end up in every water. I do know that carp and tench do much less well the further north you go in the UK. I've had some absolute crackers out of The Royal Military Canal and from Emberton Park when I lived in Olney. I'll be back there for a weeks fishing 22/6 - how good is that! But here in North Mancs you really have to work for them it seems so I haven't bothered. The UK north would appear to be right on the border of their comfort zone.

IIRC groundbait etc is fine. It's comfortable fishing as well. Flat access, bank no more than a foot or so, car next to you etc etc.

If you really want a proper river experience I would go for Andy Orme's stretch of River Teme. He writes books on the subject, teaches etc. He has 1.5 miles and only lets three anglers fish it at any time. We took it for a week, and had a great time. Andy makes rods and he measured up my mate Shagnasty and delivered the finished item to him at the bankside, that's what I call service! But it's been left to go naturally so has trees in it and so on. All this cover means fantastic Barbel in it that feed all day long.

Now carp go like the clappers and never give up, I'll give them that. However you want to try catching a Barbel on a fast, snaggy river like the Teme. That'll test your skills I can assure you. I have a photo of me with an eight-pounder from there which for a Barbel is big. They also fight so hard you have to let them rest up in a net before you can let them go to avoid exhaustion claiming them. Thoroughly recommended.

I fished the Nantes/Brest canal last september and there were Carp everywhere some pretty big ones as well, unfortunately i didn't have the gear with me to tackle anything over 5 pounds, still some excellent sport, roach, bream, perch in huge numbers.

Caught personal best perch and roach and even a pike(although it was only 6 inches long).

Stayed in a gite near rostrenen.

Slightly off topic, is there definately nowhere to coarse fish on the island? I keep hearing rumours of a fishery up north but i can't get any definitive information.

If not it's the spinner on the reservoirs for me(i can't afford to buy a load of fly gear).

I've heard those rumours myself...

I bit the bullet on Saturday and bought a reservoir license for the first time in years, give me a shout if you get one.

cant find that brochure wild dog .. but i a relative lives close .. thats why i was there fishing with him. .. so i will ask him. .. its a summer fisherie anyway according to the coppers i was talking to.

and correcting a posting above ..

you can bring carp into the island .. however they have to come from a location/country with the same or higher rating than the island and the islands is one of the highest. .. and if memory is right its somewhere like greenland or similar .. but interestingly enough southern ireland had the same rating as the island at the time i went into all the detail .. but ireland didnt have any carp on it..

has now tho so they must have been introduced from somewhere zoned the same as them .. and it may now be quite possible to import a ton from ireland.

there is a course fisherie up north but i dont know where .

there is also one in colby as thats where all the course fish in the eiry dam went too..
