Chinahand
Just to add ... Ah the erudition, companionability, smutty humour and slight racism of an Englishman under the extreme pressure of being the British Empire's representative to Stalin's Moscow during the dark days of the war. If Churchill had read it, no doubt his reply would have included KBO.

Chinahand
Really cool thread using Artificial intelligence to create modern images from historical portraits. Art, history, spooky computer programs ... What's not to like!
quilp
During my daily round-up of crazy Yank news, I discovered this little gem. A particularly gory and bizarre tale, not for the faint of heart... https://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/story/news/crime/2022/03/01/prosecutors-file-charge-death-25-year-old-green-bay-man/6979174001/ 😲

Chinahand
So what do you think? Is this genuine or a Poe parodying the craziness spreading across the world at the moment?
Chinahand
Not sure I agree with this... but it sums up the rhetoric prevalent in US politics at the moment. 1
Chinahand
Probably guilty as charged, but then again, probably not as guilty as some:
Chinahand
So how many can you name? I've got all the post world war II ones, though too often I have a blank for Nixon's VP and it takes an age for his name to raise into consciousness and it tends to sink into oblivion again ... ahggh was is his name ... General Motors ... Chrysler ... Ah!
Zarley
Nixon's VP was Spiro Agnew. How can you forget such a crazy name? He is about the only VP I can remember, just because of the unusual name. I can also usually remember Dan Quayle* too, mainly because he was such a dweeb. *VP to George Bush the Elder.
Chinahand
I find Rory Stewart an interesting thinker. This talk giving a potted history of politics, economics and geopolitics since the end of the cold war is worth watching: https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch-now/thomas-gresham-23 Edited to add Youtube link: Edited June 20, 2023 by Chinahand
Chinahand
Every time I see a display like this I'm reminded that the ONLY reason there are fatalities on the TT course is because the organisers want a course that is too fast for it to be safe. Think about that. Ethics and a duty of safety.
