If you sit down and watch one thing on TV this summer, try this on BBC iPlayer.

A bitter sweet roller coaster of the stresses and elation of the adoption process.

Two gay men, a performance artist and his accountant partner, seek to adopt. Probing Interviews from the social worker with flashbacks to childhood, coming out, family relationships, addiction, self hatred and acceptance, plus, at the end of the road, redemption.

You'll laugh, you’ll cry. Have tissues at the ready.

Beautifully written, acted and crafted. One of the things that make the licence fee worthwhile.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it but I'll give it a miss John. I'm not convinced about the whole gay adoption thing and this isn't going to change my mind.

It doesn’t matter that the two adopters are gay, or lesbian, or straight. Of course each of them would add different dimension and backstory, but at the end of the day it’s a universal story of struggle and redemption, for all of the individuals involved.
