  1. I remember Ashford telling us that the vaccine roll-out was delayed for about a week while they got the indemnities in place. Now we know this was why.
  2. It'll be nearer 5 million and this is the government with no money. Allinson must have signed it off though. I wonder why ? We didn't need a 'dedicated' site when government own properties that could easily have been repurposed. But that's not the way is it. Who's got the contract ? I can't see the need for such a specialist facility costing millions in the first place.
  3. ...and I think you probably said something disobliging to that woman who's sticking her head out of the door.
  4. Referendums rarely settle anything. How many would really understand the issues anyway ? What if it was inconclusive ? How would it be worded ? Lots of questions to be answered before they take this step. Organised pressure groups would have an unfair advantage too. If I was Alf I'd forget it. On balance I'm for the legislation though. Those against can't answer the main fundamental question. It came up on the Mannin Line today when Andy Wint reminded a caller about the recent case of a local man who was terminally ill and died in the most agonising and traumatic way for him, his family and carers. In such extremis the anti-legislation lobbyists have no answer. I know that when my time is up, and if the decision is between me and God, I know which way I'll be voting.
  5. Well they won't be able to fire any more rockets into Israel every day and night. That's a start. Once they're flushed out of Gaza where are they going to launch their next attacks from ? There's not much love for Hamas in the Arab world. Military means sometimes do and have worked. Often it's the last and only option. There's no politics or dialogue with a death cult like Hamas. None. Even less than there was with that weasel Arafat.
  6. We're keen to claim them but it's only when they leave that their talent is truly recognised. Three lads from Willaston would never have become the Bee Gees if they hadn't left for Australia. Speaking of Manx talent, I see that the opera soprano Margaret Curphey has died.
  7. I see that asshole is back in there again. He'll be out again in no time. Prison works...
  8. She's Manx if I recall. Certainly grew up and went to school here. Lovely girl too. Well done Roisin
  9. That steak will be really well done by now.
  10. It's not. Not even remotely, but these sweeping historical comparisons provide an easy framework and model of explanation. It's playing games with history based on a set of rules.
  11. There was a well known farmer out the west of the Island (You know the one) who got a fortune in land grants to keep his fields green. He had the greenest fields on the Island.
  12. How many others ? You can be sure that if Howard got it there were plenty of others on the free gravy for doing nothing too.
  13. I don't think Rabbis have batteries Albert. Not last time I checked anyway.

    STEM

A degree is of very little value for most jobs on the IOM and won't get you very far. Too often the preference is to recruit off-Island to boost economic activity and housing demand.

    STEM

So which academic and career path did Michelle Haywood choose ? Did she follow the STEM route before she got into politics ?
  16. It is the cost of homes and accommodation that has sucked all the demand out of hospitality and the rest of the economy. Whether mortgage or rent, the average consumer has no money left at the end of the month to spend in the service industry. Government could've done something to allay this but they're too in hock to the big developers, landlords and landowners; getting the new residents over here to buy new five bedroom houses; and keeping the property market 'buoyant' (Inflated). If it wasn't for the offshore gaming industry, UK expats/tax dodgers, and wealthy Manx pensioners on huge public sector pensions, there wouldn't be a restaurant or cafe left.
  17. Summat to do wiv insects innit ?
  18. At a guess I'd say the weight to speed ratio has changed since I was a young boy racer. The average modern road car is so much quicker than they were in the '60s and '70s and the body shell is much lighter. The handling, road-holding and braking is massively improved. I'd say the main factor in increased roll-overs is simply that speeds have increased.
  19. I well remember the father of one of the teenage girls in one of the Grooming Gang scandals, being arrested for trying to stop his daughter leaving the house when her 'taxi' arrived. He hadn't even touched her but she called the police and into the van he went. Years later she apologised to her father for trying to stop her ruining her life. Just one story of many.
  20. In my day (I know, I know) they'd never have put cameras in toilets, even if they had the technology. A member of staff of the appropriate gender would have been posted in the toilets at break times and regular patrols would do checks. There'd be no talking in the toilets when a member of staff was present. There'd be no problems and no complaints from parents. It wouldn't happen these days though. Schools are still in full retreat from the adult authority and leadership of the past.
  21. Very sorry to see Looney's going. Like Felton's they'd become part of the town. It's a huge loss to Ramsey. Decent prices and quality too. Paid my last visit there today as they're closing once stock has all gone. I imagine they'll be gone by the weekend. It's always been a pleasure shopping in there and I wish them well.
  22. Wonder how much the hardware and installation cost too ? I heard that the new head at RGS has just paid £10,000 to carpet the school gym for examinations. You couldn't make it up. Who's authorising these policies ?
  23. Rather than deal with the offenders properly, they stick cameras in the toilets to film every child. Which idiot came up with that one ?
