  1. How many others ? You can be sure that if Howard got it there were plenty of others on the free gravy for doing nothing too.
  2. I don't think Rabbis have batteries Albert. Not last time I checked anyway.
  3. Shake me up Judy

    STEM

A degree is of very little value for most jobs on the IOM and won't get you very far. Too often the preference is to recruit off-Island to boost economic activity and housing demand.

    STEM

So which academic and career path did Michelle Haywood choose ? Did she follow the STEM route before she got into politics ?
  5. It is the cost of homes and accommodation that has sucked all the demand out of hospitality and the rest of the economy. Whether mortgage or rent, the average consumer has no money left at the end of the month to spend in the service industry. Government could've done something to allay this but they're too in hock to the big developers, landlords and landowners; getting the new residents over here to buy new five bedroom houses; and keeping the property market 'buoyant' (Inflated). If it wasn't for the offshore gaming industry, UK expats/tax dodgers, and wealthy Manx pensioners on huge public sector pensions, there wouldn't be a restaurant or cafe left.
  6. Summat to do wiv insects innit ?
  7. At a guess I'd say the weight to speed ratio has changed since I was a young boy racer. The average modern road car is so much quicker than they were in the '60s and '70s and the body shell is much lighter. The handling, road-holding and braking is massively improved. I'd say the main factor in increased roll-overs is simply that speeds have increased.
  8. I well remember the father of one of the teenage girls in one of the Grooming Gang scandals, being arrested for trying to stop his daughter leaving the house when her 'taxi' arrived. He hadn't even touched her but she called the police and into the van he went. Years later she apologised to her father for trying to stop her ruining her life. Just one story of many.
  9. In my day (I know, I know) they'd never have put cameras in toilets, even if they had the technology. A member of staff of the appropriate gender would have been posted in the toilets at break times and regular patrols would do checks. There'd be no talking in the toilets when a member of staff was present. There'd be no problems and no complaints from parents. It wouldn't happen these days though. Schools are still in full retreat from the adult authority and leadership of the past.
  10. Very sorry to see Looney's going. Like Felton's they'd become part of the town. It's a huge loss to Ramsey. Decent prices and quality too. Paid my last visit there today as they're closing once stock has all gone. I imagine they'll be gone by the weekend. It's always been a pleasure shopping in there and I wish them well.
  11. Wonder how much the hardware and installation cost too ? I heard that the new head at RGS has just paid £10,000 to carpet the school gym for examinations. You couldn't make it up. Who's authorising these policies ?
  12. Rather than deal with the offenders properly, they stick cameras in the toilets to film every child. Which idiot came up with that one ?
  13. Where it's deserved, a good pasting is the best lesson some kids, and some adults, ever receive. The pain and humiliation usually sorts them out, gives them the socialisation and self-awareness they lack and puts them on a better path. It's part of human learning and it's been that way since time began.
  14. I suspect that he saw the ghost of Roly hovering over him.
  15. No one is fannying or faffing about. Not everyone is as tech-savvy as you and won't be any time soon. Technology can disenfranchise large numbers of people, particularly the poor, the elderly or people with learning difficulties.
  16. A hot meat pie did for Ernie and laid him in the dust.
  17. You might challenge someone in the IOM Co-op but only a fool would get involved in a big city store across.
  18. I see that the great evolutionary philosopher and one of the 'four horsemen' with Dawkins, Hitchens and Harris has died. As well as being one of the world's great thinkers he was also a farmer. I always admired that. RIP Daniel.
  19. Shoplifting has gone viral across Britain. There's even a group calling themselves 'Robin Hood' who go around robbing supermarkets and walking out with huge trolley-loads of stuff. They then take it to food banks or create pop-up free food points in public areas. School kids are getting in on the act too. Nobody wants to stop them for fear of arrest themselves. Organised crime groups are pulling off supermarket heists on an industrial scale, driving round in vans emptying shelves. Security staff aren't paid enough to tackle a gang of hooded-up thieves.
  20. I can't see the older shoppers getting the hang of the self-service checkouts. I'm determined to familiarise myself but I've not had much luck so far. Most elderly customers have got no chance and I can see Tesco having to rethink the checkout systems. Too many things can go wrong and staff are constantly having to assist customers.
  21. Not sure what point you're trying to make with these images here ?
  22. Because the jihadists use kids as soldiers and martyrs. It's a deliberate tactic. They indoctrinate them from a young age. They can then use them for decoys and booby-traps; as human bombs and shields; give them weapons training; send them in to clear minefields; etc. They'll kick a football under Israeli tanks then send a booby-trapped child to go and get the ball. They'll load a pram with high explosive, stick a baby in it, then send a young 'mother' out on to the street. In any conflict with jihadists the body count of children will always be disproportionately higher. It also plays on the liberal values of the soft west and wins the propaganda war. Don't you know all this stuff ? They're well known tactics. You seem stuck in your own truth loop...
