  1. Yeah, ok, if you could get out early enough to get to the first in time, and if you could stay up long enough for the other! No chance today, but it looks as though they may be taking the post across - they're going to Heysham this morning, but have not told anyone about it - could be just a fright trip for the freight?
  2. What was that??? Did somebody need to be across by Monday? What sailings?
  3. Weekdays, departure from Douglas is normally scheduled for 08.45, and Manxman was, until recently, (has something been done to her?) taking 4 hours to get to Heysham. Then you have to collect any luggage. Just about right time to get the train.
  4. I'm confused over what you want here - what is wrong with approaching the roundels at the road speed o 20 mph? If you can see clearly from a distance that there is no traffic likely to obstruct you, then just go over it at normal speed. If there is someone on the roundel, who is heading across you from the right, stop for them. They got there first. Avoid accidents. Bear in mind that this is the Island. People often stop at Quarterbridge when they don't need to. But please... don't turn that into roundels!!!!
  5. There's a train weekday lunchtimes, to link with the boat, and there's a bus up the road (Its terminus is just before the roundabout.). Liverpool railway stations are a good walk from the Steam Packet berth (and will become much further when the new terminal opens). Yes, I know there are people who can get to James Street in 5 minutes, but try that if you are not athletic and have suitcases, and it's raining. There's no longer a bus station at the Pier Head, and buses are (and will be?) a bit hit and miss. You've more or less got to get a taxi, and fortunately there are usually plenty of them at present. (Will that change when the new terminal opens?) Road access to/from Heysham, for those with cars, is far superior than Liverpool.
  6. Douglas is now a city, with pretentions. No matter that you won't be able to see over the wall. There'll be pretty lights to look at.
  7. Does anyone know who they are? Everyone seems to deny responsibility.
  8. "Liverpool's new Isle of Man ferry terminal is nearing completion" Who was it who said that it would be finished by New Year?
  9. Surely the time to learn lessons was when Abbotswood residents were all dying? Yet now we are only just being told that "lessons will be learned". How many years does it take?
  10. I'm leaving that to Gef! https://gef.im/news/transport/manxman-to-go-on-manoeuvres-44026/?fbclid=IwAR1g2w6pWKI5WtdC147wQDkcV4jJDCeycyE2xEa-IiPjWcCKeZBKN2k14oM
  11. From the Packet: "Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Just a heads up: Manxman will be undertaking some manoeuvers in Douglas Bay tonight once it has discharged its passengers and freight from Heysham. It should be back alongside by approx. 20:00 hours." Will they be checking out how fast they can go before the vessel vibrates itself to death? Or what? It occurs that the night time crew have not had any duty hours recently with the "contingency schedule".
  12. One thing that may have put off people who were considering building on the site is that anything (like car park/storage space etc) put in under road level is likely to flood whenever there is an exceptionally high tide, unless suitable defences are inbuilt. It's a dire place to wait for a bus if there's any weather. Not a good advert for Douglas, or the Island.
  13. Douglas is now a city. Doesn't it deserve a proper bus station, with an indoor waiting area, and public toilets? It could even house a shop, for snacks, newspapers (if they ever arrive on the Island), and knick-knacks. Build a car park on top of it, and it might even pay something towards its upkeep.
  14. Come back to me on that one, once you are over 75. You'd do away with state pensions as well, would you, for people who have been able to save out their hard earned cash?
  15. Was this deja vue?? IOMSPCo Press release January 2023 Nautilus International notes Steam Packet Company update.
  16. Why not go the whole hog and have everyone euthanised when they reach the age of 75, so they are no longer able to enjoy the rewards of having paid into a system that was always supposed to help to look after them. At that age, they are beyond their normal life expectancy, and therefore expendable.
  17. Some of us paid into the system for years, in advance, having deductions made that we could not then afford. We get scant thanks for that now, from people who suggest that if we have managed to make enough in our working lives to be able to have a reasonable lifestyle now, we should expect to pay for everything twice - a double whammy if ever I saw one.
  18. Has it been? https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/former-infrastructure-minister-confident-liverpool-ferry-terminal-will-be-complete-by-new-years-day/
  19. There's no sense in it, and it's certainly not common.
  20. Try looking at their web pages, there's a lot of red ink up there, too. https://www.calmac.co.uk/service-status
  21. Just to make everybody happy, Father Christmas has presented the Steam Packet with amazingly big supplies of red ink. Spot the sailing that will definitely operate over the next few days. (Tonight's is already cancelled). Will Arrow be allowed out for a couple of runs??
  22. There has been an update. MONDAY, 25 DECEMBER 2023 Douglas Heysham Departure: 08:45 – Manxman Expected Arrival: 12:30 Due to the forecast adverse conditions this sailing has been cancelled. Father Christmas says that the crew want to go home for Christmas. The Company says that this sailing was never going to operate anyway. Heysham Douglas Departure: 14:15 – Manxman Expected Arrival: 18:00 Due to the forecast adverse conditions this sailing has been cancelled.
