  1. I saw the live stream of the bottle event. Did the bottle actually break at the second attempt? To my ears, it hit the ship with a thunk, not a smash, then it disappeared.
  2. As I understand it, Manxman will be leaving Southampton on 30 June, and is due to arrive in Douglas on 2 July. This would give them a week to find out where everything is before they show people round.
  3. Years ago, a ruling should have been made that all newbuild houses, factories, etc. must be fitted with solar panels. No-one has done this, and no-one will, because it would cut the profits made by the MEA and Manx Gas.
  4. Could be an interesting Tynwald session tomorrow? Maybe? But then again........ 🙄🥱
  5. There's a new video rant out, produced by Charles Guard. He seems to be getting at everyone, including DBC. Will anyone take any notice?
  6. Have you tried https://www.ttshirts.com/ Or try their shop on Queens Prom.
  7. The supplement was only ever available to people who had paid NI to the IOM economy for a minimum of 10 years, scaled according to the number of years you had contributed.
  8. What I'd like to know is what Judith Ley has done to deserve being sent to Liverpool by Manx Radio to "cover" Eurovision for "The Nation's Station".

    TT 2023

Oh, I don't know.... just needs a bit of wind and the ferries stop running
  11. They glue themselves there. They should be allowed to stay put for a few hours. Let them fester until they get hungry, need a toilet break, etc....
  12. Is that anything like.... "to boldly go" ??
  13. It's not too far away from Beaufort's Dyke. That might be a source of some extra power. 😎
  14. He's only in it for Proffitt.
  15. Some places treat their sports heroes as idols. You only have to look at Cristiano Ronaldo and his birthplace, Madeira. He has statues, waxworks, a museum, an airport named after him, etc... etc... etc... Not that I m suggesting that Cavendish or Kennaugh should be considered to be in the same league (please not!!!!)
  16. You don't just need to be a wheel to be a dozy fucktard. I have cycled myself, and there is nothing like the adage "see and be seen". This is particularly important for cyclists, who are, to say the least, vulnerable, no matter who is driving a motor vehicle in their vicinity. And in relation to fucktards, it takes one to know one.
  17. It appears that the law is just as much of a pillock as the lycra lout - "Surprisingly bikes are on of the only vehicles that don’t have to have lights fitted in low level light conditions. This means that no matter how dark it gets, technically you only need your lights switched on from sunset to sunrise. Though the time requirement is judged from when the sun drops beyond the horizon, it’s advisable to have the lights fitted at all times so you can turn them on if you get caught out in some fog or heavy rain." "the Highway Code. Rule 60 states: “At night your cycle MUST have white front and red rear lights lit. It MUST also be fitted with a red rear reflector (and amber pedal reflectors, if manufactured after 1/10/85). White front reflectors and spoke reflectors will also help you to be seen. Flashing lights are permitted but it is recommended that cyclists who are riding in areas without street lighting use a steady front lamp.”" The plonker that I (just) saw ahead of me in the fog this morning had a barely visible flashing rear light, no reflectors anywhere, and his clothing was not hi-viz. Quotes are from a biking supply company in the UK. https://blog.cyclestore.co.uk/u-k-bike-light-laws-are-you-cycling-correctly/
  18. Has yesterday's mail plane got in yet?
  19. At least it's not got holes in it like most of the tarmac, and it'll look a lot prettier when it flowers. ☺️
  20. Good fodder for the cartoonists. From the Torygraph yesterday:
  21. Teaching used to be the "easy option" if you were reasonably good at exams, and wanted an easy going future life, with good holidays. Gradually, some of that easy life was eroded, because of paperwork, a requirement to research teaching subjects in your own time (horror), often having to look after school kids in groups during the holidays, on special projects. Late finishes at school became more frequent, and were not just needed for supervision of kids that were given detention. Some teachers still "fall out of" school and college into school, because they don't want to (or can't) learn how to do anything else, and maybe these are finding it a bit more stressful than they imagined it would be. Having said that, all jobs are stressful at times, and stress can become extremely bad if not recognised and dealt with. At least you tend not to get locked up as would have been the case 100 plus years ago. See "The Return of the Pink Panther" during which Chief Inspector Dreyfus is put into a straight Jacket in a padded cell, where he uses chalk between his toes to write "Kill Clouseau" on the walls. That's stress!
  22. At least most of the birds living in, or visiting, the IOM are allowed to exist without being shot. In Malta, in the spring migration season, "if it flies, it dies". "AS SOON AS MIGRATORY BIRDS ARE SIGHTED ON THE ISLANDS OF MALTA AND GOZO, THEY’RE GREETED BY THE BARRELS OF UP TO 6,000 GUNS. FOR 20 DAYS IN APRIL". There are supposed to be laws protecting most of the birds, but nobody takes any notice. And that's "just" birds (which could be "ours" if they're allowed to continue their flights north). If you want more on the Mafia in Malta, read this https://theshiftnews.com/2023/01/02/malta-the-mafias-paradise/ Not so cynical, maybe?
  23. Worse than "gotten" is the phrase "Can I get", when asking for, say, a drink at the bar, some goods from behind the counter, etc.... NO, You can't get them..... the staff member has to get them for you... idiot.
  24. That's only because people who are still wearing masks wear them below the nose or round the neck.
