  1. I described the IOMToday comments section as being 'unimaginably worse than Manx Forums' the other day.
  2. I'd love to hear a psychiatric opinion as to what is (most likely) going on in that head of his.
  3. One has probably inspired the other.
  4. I think I heard it on Radio 4, to be honest.
  5. Judge: "Gazza?" Barrister: "Ah, yes, your honour, Gazza is the nickname for a professional footballer, Paul Gascoigne" Judge: "Football?" Barrister: "Yes, your honour, it's a competitive team game typically played on a field of grass" Judge: "Grass?" Barrister: "Yes, your honour, it's a type of plant that grows on the earth" Judge: "The earth?" etc. etc.
  6. Women with doctorates must be his thing. He tags MHK Dr Michelle Haywood several times a day, almost every day of the week. Link to Twitter
  7. Earlier this year I made a point in jest about Charles Guard delivering an "Annual Festive Bollocking". To be honest, the fact that he's a respected broadcaster and historian, but also is clearly well versed in all aspects of media production, narrative and even writes a musical score to underpin his message, he probably has more political clout than any of our MHKs or MLCs in what he does. Long may his missives continue.

    Pop- up Ads

Seems to be location dependent - last time I viewed the Manxforums site from outside of the island the number of adverts were overwhelming.
  9. If the Robin Gibb incident was pre 2004, the Villa was using the Palace Lido's old sound rig in the Royal Hall, which was mostly a load of EV knock-offs. Not great. The refit at least brought a concert standard system into the venue, but it's showing its age now.
  10. I don't think anyone is disagreeing that the NHS is underfunded. I do disagree with the notion that we must ransack and defund everything you don't personally find useful in your life to fix that problem.
  11. A lot of people use attending concerts, events, festivals as something to focus on while their day to day life might not be so great. "Just get me to the end of this week and then I go to see that comedian at the Gaiety, or I can camp out at the Full Moon Festival with my mates, or I watch my kids perform at the Guild..." The arts means a lot to a lot of people and their wellbeing and mental health. I'm sorry that doesn't include you.
  12. OK, how many 'big decent shows' do you think have visited the island with their own lights and sound in the past 10 years? Edit: 20 years, 30 years for that matter.
  13. £1.6 million over the 19 years since the last major refit it's the cost of a little over an MHK's standard salary per annum. I'd rather get rid of one of our numerous gravy trainers than reduce the viability as a venue for visiting artists because it's too costly to ship in a lighting and sound package each time. If the Villa/Gaiety goes into decline and out of action, you'll have to travel a bit further than 4 miles to see a decent show.
  14. Chalk that up to the guys working there keeping everything going despite the last investment being almost 20 years ago.
  15. Modern worship knows the power of the old razzle dazzle. They're often more accomplished at showbusiness than many live music venues.
  16. I can't get my head around why people are so emotional about what is basically a ploy to get more people in the high street to spend money they increasingly haven't got. Capitalism at its finest; the true meaning of Christmas. For that matter, Strand Street might look lavish right now but the retail experience is still crap.
  17. A selection of awards and those that won them. The Isle of Man Government Award for Freedom to Flourish: The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Award for Environmental Initiative of the Year: Suntera Global The Suntera Global Award for Leader of the Year: Sue Cook, Junior Achievement Isle of Man The Visit Isle of Man Award for Sustainable Business of the Year: Zurich Isle of Man The Zurich Award for Health and Wellbeing Initiative of the Year: Swagelok The AI Strategy Ninja Award for Business of the Year: AFD Software The AFD Award for Digital Innovation of the Year: CoinCorner Back-scratch-tastic.
  18. Hard to decide which is more pitiful: Heading's constant, daily online harassment of public figures, or the trolls and reply guys spending hours of their time responding to his tweets.
  19. Imagine you are a tech startup with barely just the company website as your presence in the world. If people search for personnel listed on the company website 'meet the team' section, and they don't exist on linkedIn, it might give them cause to wonder if the company is real. Like many of these 'business directories' they're a bit of a protection racket at heart.
  20. I'm not a massive fan of LinkedIn - the 'Follow Richard Branson for more inspirational bullshit' section is not for me, but it does have its uses. Perception varies based on the sector you're in, I think. If you're a dry stone waller you're probably not going to get as much mileage as a full stack developer for training, recruitment opportunities, hearing about events, etc. Some employers expect you to have some presence on LinkedIn, even if it's the briefest of summaries.
  21. From the Manx Radio live stream it looked like the fireworks were being launched from Barrow-in-Furness.
  22. I would imagine that parcel tracking drops off the system after quite a short period, say a couple of months, once it has been delivered.
  23. Your guess is as good as mine. I think he views anyone with academic training, suitable qualifications, experience and track record in the field as untrustworthy.
