    TT 2022 ??

Jurby Day was organised and run by the local branch of the Vintage Motorcycle Club , your comments are pretty much spot on . However I understand that the VMCC local branch had a recent meeting with Rob Callister as they were keen to put on something similar to Jurby Day at the MGP or the Southern 100 . Rob was not interested and thought that what the Gov was providing was enough . You were perhaps being kind to the man whose only triumph (apart from declaring how he was hard at work in the VIP tent meeting and greeting corporate clients(?) ) was the destruction of the iconic (IMO) TT/MGP scoreboard. He is, IMO , to the TT/MGP / motorcycle racing fraternity what Herod was to child care . It struck me at the time that he was behaving like a spoilt brat who , determined to get a new toy trashed the current one believing that "mum" (IOM Gov) would be forced to buy him a new one. Rob has been unable, to date, to establish the cost of his 'Media Awareness Training' I have just received an email from the TTMA giving notice of an Extraordinary General Meeting to Wind up the TTMA and appointing a liquidator on the 9th Feb , however the venue for the meeting has NOT been given . Just saying
  2. I am obliged by your opinions, as far as I , and many other Onchan residents are concerned Peter Karren was an excellent MHK . He was clearly an honest man , had he not have been he would have been 'speared' by the establishment . He was the only MHK who got back to me and I found him helpful . I view you as one of the poorest contributors to this site , hope this helps

    TT 2022 ??

I have witnessed/attended a number of incidents including , sadly , two 'fatals' . I subsequently heard individuals telling others precisely what happened ( particularly in relation to one of the 'fatals')and when I tried to correct them was shouted down until I told them that "I was there " .This individual stated , totally incorrectly, that parts of the body were detached . On another occasion they even got the site of the incident wrong (but then again so did the radio). All I'm saying is that on occasions people can embellish/exaggerate any story , for reasons best known to themselves, and perhaps a first question should be "were you there ,did you witness the event? " before believing and repeating what could just be " bloke on the pub nonsense". Doc fixit, as a marshal I could be called a 'first responder' , my responsibility is to attend the rider or assist the medic (if we are lucky enough to have one ), and your lurid description is not one that I recognise , perhaps I've been lucky . Just saying

    TT 2022 ??

I've been marshalling for over 10 years and we've had quite a few "offs" , sadly including two fatals . The TM , on arrival , is then in charge. The occupants of the course inspection car have never taken charge and have seldom even turned up and/or stopped other than to pick up retired riders to return them to the grandstand. . I see no reason for a course/VIP car to have a 'blast' around the course.
  5. Perhaps it's my age but the expression " just come over on the banana boat" goes back to derogatory expressions about West Indian folk in the "Windrush" era. Would have thought that a more suitable expression to indication one wasn't stupid would be "I haven't just come over on the morning boat . Just saying
  6. I'm obliged by your opinion and retain my own however it is a tad racist, hope this helps

I stand to be corrected but I understand that riders returned to the grandstand the "wrong way" after the incident involving DJ without a problem. All I know is that I ( as a marshal) would not instruct a rider to leave once stopped unless specifically OK'd by race control . That said I remember an occasion when a rider stopped and was 'unable to rejoin' ( lack of fuel), confirmed with race control, but then decided to try , managed about 100 yds and parked up on the verge ( didn't have the nerve to return ) race control advised , hope he got a ban .

Not looking for a row but if there was an appliance on the course dealing with the fire how could the police assist? That said if if the driver was acting under the instructions from race control I take your point. If a rider has stopped he/she would be told not proceed until specific instructions had been given by race control . If memory serves a general announcement was made that riders would be returning to the grandstand we assumed that they would have been led in by a TM . A marshal at Sulby bridge actively prevented stationary riders joining those returning to the grandstand as she was unaware of any specific instruction from race control and there was no TM leading ( I'm told the picture on the front page of a local paper would confirm). Just saying

Fair comment , would be interesting to know the content of the riders briefing . Travelling marshals lead riders off the course the "right way" after a red flag . I am also curious as to why the car with two police officers were on the course. I understand there was sadly a 'fatal'( which was the reason for the red flag )and as no other bikes were involved there was no reason for the police to investigate .I understand the road had been cleared , one wonders if the occupants of the car were speeding to the scene for a bit of rubbernecking ? Just saying

Not sure about the "Marshal or Marshals" , a course car with two ( initially one) police officers on board was what I was given to understand but I stand to be corrected.
  11. Forgive me but this 'commercial decision' involves no financial cost to IOM gov , the cost could well be the lives of residents and the loss of revenue to businesses . I'm informed that if one is unsuccessful in a job interview these days it is acceptable to ask and be told why . I am curious to know why you allege "rachomics" has been petulant as it's not a view I share
  12. John Wright, it would appear that on the contrary you have already made your mind up . You may well have 40 years litigation experience including , I understand, being criticised by your own IOM professional body for improper conduct. I have had 30 years experience ,as a PHI/EHO in dealing with infectious diseases and I find your comments unhelpful and frankly 'nasty'. I'm aware that to "question a mod" results in a ban , confirmed in an email citing "spamming" as the reason, so perhaps it is now the time (as there may not be another 😂)to say I find your moderation of this site at times 'unfortunate' . Just saying.
  13. The Commissioners were in breach of H&S legislation by failing to maintain the structure of the building . You are a liar and should be ashamed , hope this helps .
  14. I'm pleased the Cosy Nook has been saved , pity that the Commissioners contrived to encourage it to becoming derelict . Many people were saying that the old Murray's Museum should have been demolished , I would recommend a visit to see what can be achieved . Just saying.
  15. Reminds me of a letter in the "Wipers Times" (Ypres during WW1) published as a leaflet for the troops , in the letters column the question was posed " Is it ever permissible to shoot a commanding officer?" the response ......... "Only in extenuating circumstances" .
  16. was he an associate of a lawyer who ' broke the rules' ? Just asking 😉
  17. Perhaps "Banker" has just spent the greater part of his life being confused😉. He seems to recommend that we should follow our "leader " (Howie). The only reason for some of us to follow him would perhaps be idle curiosity? ETA
  18. I have worked in public health since 1963 , not having a panic , just being prudent . I value the opinions of Dr Glover . Just saying
  19. At best an interesting hypothesis but I think I'll give your advice a bit of a swerve , keep posting , there's not a dry seat in the house.
  20. Fair point Roxie . TBH I'm not reassured by our political masters/ Senior CS 'pencil squeezers , particularly when "they" binned off Dr Glover because she may have got some kudos which presumably they alone wished to claim. Realistically if I get infected , because of my age I am likely to get TLC rather than ICU ( fair enough) so I will make my own arrangements in attempting to keep myself safe. just saying
  21. Perhaps but if they were to offer say a 10/15 year lease at an initial low rent provided they will bring the property back into an acceptable standard someone could take it on. The old Murray's Museum at the Bungalow was vacant for years , take a look now at what a Manx couple with a vision and hard work have achieved . Just saying
  22. There was inside seating with about six tables , it was my regular Sunday breakfast meet up place with motor cycle friends and when the family ( 6 adults and 8 kids) visited . Fine weather, sat outside with the kids playing on the beach . Phil and Sue were excellent hosts and the food was excellent and reasonably priced and the place was popular. Just saying
  23. Sounds like a description of what happened to "Jurby Day", it was successful, organised by a few OAP's , but the "Motor Sport Team/ Gov couldn't claim the glory so they speared it . I find the sense of entitlement of many of those involved in Government beggars belief and a pound to a pinch of **** if, god forbid, it does really kick off on this island, there will be a concerted effort by the powers that be to abdicate all responsibility and demonise Dr Glover.
