  1. Pretty much, and I certainly wouldn’t eat them raw. Can’t be bothered with mussels, and my experience of snails is that they’re like garlic chewing gum. Not tried the rest, and I’ve never heard of flitters.
  2. If I was in charge I’d make prescriptions free, but have a limited formulary of things that are prescribable - nothing you can buy over the counter, mainly generic rather than branded drugs, and nothing that doesn’t work.
  3. Incredible how they’ve been marketed as a sophisticate’s appetiser. They’re basically salty slime that have literally filtered shit out of seawater to feed it to the next person. Can you tell I’m not a fan?
  4. Amazing that the world seems to be waking up because a handful of western aid workers have been accidentally bombed. Not too bothered by the 10000 Gazan kids though 🙄
  5. I think that does deserve some credit. I came over in 2005 aged 35, so have spent 1/3 of my life here or thereabouts. Probably won’t live long enough to make it 2/3, but you get the point, which is that (I think) we want economically active people to move here and stay here, while contributing economically and socially to island life. What we don’t really want are pensioners moving here to minimise tax take on their pension, nor youngsters to leave for a better life on the bigger island.
  6. And emigration.
  7. Had this been posted yesterday I'd have thought it was an April Fool thing. Unbelievable.
  8. Never going to happen. Arabs outnumber Jews. So, for argument's sake assume the UN made a new state of Israel-Palestine, geographically incorporating Israel, Gaza, and the West Bank. At the first election there'd be an Arab leadership who would start doing to Jews what Jews have been doing to Arabs for the last 70 years.
  9. Liverpool now most likely to win the prem
  10. Most people just want to live a quiet life in peace. Demonising an entire group like this is not helpful. Obviously it’s irrelevant in the whole scheme of things when it’s P.K. on Manx Forums doing it, but is very damaging when it’s a few steps up the political food chain.
  11. Why do we bother with news at all then?
  12. In about a month the police will probably put out a tweet asking for witnesses.
  13. When people think 'civil servant' they imagine the people working in offices dealing with tax enquiries, planning applications, health service administration etc. But most public sector employees are nurses, doctors, teachers, police officers, ground workers, fire service... I don't have any figures to hand, but I'd bet that the public sector workers who 'actually do stuff' far outnumber the 'pen pushers'.
  14. Pension is deferred salary. Prior to 2012 CS contributions were very low. They're now, when combined with the employer contributions, about right (within the limits of accuracy of actuarial projections) to fund them going forwards. The legacy deficit will, over a few decades, reduce in real terms, but there's not much that can be done about it now apart from pay it from general taxation.
  15. And if those deaths happen in Tenerife, or Peru, or wherever the odd retired Manxie has gone - do you still expect the PSPA to be able to find out right away?
  16. The 190k is over 5 years, and 2/3 of it was recovered, so the percentage is more like 0.009%. This is a tiny discrepancy, almost certainly due to people dying and being paid for a month or two afterwards. I guess most will have been abroad - further than UK. This level of accounting accuracy should be commended shouldn't it?
  17. That's how it works for me working at Noble's. If ever I thought I'd made the wrong choice I'd go on a course or conference across, meet up with old friends and colleagues, and find out it's far worse there.
  18. I heard, from my daughter who most recently went there, that there aren't enough toilets for all that need to go during break, and kids would routinely be late back for lessons as they were waiting to be able to go. Might be some truth in that, but there's undoubtedly truth in the kids using toilet breaks to 'mess about' Back in the day (and I was a good boy remember) we had a substitute teacher who just couldn't control the class. We came up with a scheme to disrupt the lesson by all wanting to go to the toilet. Repeatedly. At one point she said "Only 6 of you to go at one time". It was hilarious. We'd have never got away with it with any of the regular teachers. Apart from that it was a rare event for anyone to need the toilet during lessons.
  19. Or subscribe. Last time my subscription lapsed I was not using the forum much so I didn’t immediately re-subscribe. When I did dip in it was awful with the ads. Don’t know how you cope with them. Genuine question - how much does ad-blocker software cost, or is it ‘free’ and ironically paid for by certain ads it mysteriously allows to slip through its net?
  20. And of course, if we didn’t allow them to visit they’d all go out of business and the planet would be saved 🙄
  21. I doubt that Henrietta Ewart and Rachel Glover post 2 hour long YouTube streams of consciousness so he'd have missed it.
  22. That is definitely a red flag that someone is ‘odd’. Doesn’t mean they’re necessarily mentally ill however.
