My BF leg, Portsmouth to Bilbao and return, 65 hours at sea, 3 nights in cabin and all my food and drink in Commodore Club lounge is £1100

Theres room for home delivery, whoosh, click & collect, scan & shop, self checkout and full service checkout. It’s ensuring the balance is right. Retailers always dress things up. Morrisons are pushing quiet times for people who don’t like busy stores. The cynic in me says “virtue out of necessity” as Morrisons are failing and always empty. Asda, on the other hand could shave 2% off prices if they weren’t saddled with so much venture capital debt.

Try thinking slightly outside the box. It’s only popular because it may save time. Why may it save time? Because the retailer never has enough staffed checkouts open, so there are queues. Hence shoppers are pushed to scan & shop and self checkout. It’s nothing to do with customer convenience, its retailer cost cutting. That being said, one supermarket chain, small, I grant, is removing self checkout tills from its stores, and reverting to serviced checkout.

It’s not a question of whether you’re lucky enough, or not, it’s a question of the retailer having a legal obligation. At least one in every store should have a lowered screen and payment reader. Same with car park pay machines. You asked, without qualification, what was difficult with self check out. I gave an example. There are others, older people who need assistance bagging up, is another example.

I’ve never seen one anywhere that is wheelchair accessible. The positioning of the screen and the card reader is difficult when you are seated.

Well, this morning I had a sneak preview of the ground floor public areas of Summerhill View. There’s parking for 50+ cars, three or 4 mini bus spaces, EV charging, but only two designated access spaces, which seemed few when you consider purpose of building and the fact many visitors will be older. It seems to include a clinic area and day care/community/social activity areas. Its nice. The buildings are round a garden courtyard and the effect of the design is that it looks like a group of Manx houses and cottages. I was there for my Covid booster. Dose 9. 3 primaries and 6 boosters. It was over 75’s and clinically vulnerable. They’ve only just started up there. Was a bit muddled. I had mine brought forward as I’m off Island for a few weeks. The vaccinator couldn’t get her head round that and called a supervisor because she thought I might be queue jumping ( despite invite, appointment and check in procedures ). She had to have it explained that in remission from Leukaemia put me in the haematologically compromised/vulnerable category. I was queue jumping, but not back until TT and I’ve got a couple weeks police court & duty advocate duties over TT. They don’t anticipate delivering beyond then. So was now or never. 111 were brilliant about offering me a slot. Didn’t want side effects if I was covering police station advice and courts. As it happens, so far, nothing.
