  1. i know of one firm that does that, and keeps going because of it
  2. what a crock of shit, what is he expecting the manx public to do, go to ther MHK in the hope they will force mezeron to stop shipping. yep take a hike
  3. Agreed. It's as if road haulage were expected to fund coach travel. They are funding it at the moment if SPC's comments are true. It is almost a mantra from them that freight subsidises passengers My suggestion was to take that subsidisation out of the hands of the operator and use it as an alternative to the UA as a method of maintaining a passenger service I was also thinking the importance of passengers visiting the Island in terms of tourist revenue so does that include air fares as well. because if it was a levy put on that had to be paid. you can sure as shit see the aircraft companys kicking off about unfair playing fields. which they would have every right to. Just because the SP used fright to sub the passangers fairs (which we have to take there word for it and whos to say he aint lieing) It becomes something complety diffrent when gov impose this.
  4. Why should there be a freight levy to pay peoples trips away. There should be no levy on any of it.
  5. Are you going to interview anyone from the counter side of the argument ? So far only the govt/UA/McQuarrie side seems to represented. Is it just that the other sides are unavailable ? Equally - what about saying - "you know well actually is this really anything like Manx Line vs IOMSPCo 30 years ago ?" and then noting all some of the very obvious significant differences. Like the fact that in those days there was no UA. Like the fact that in those days the passenger side was more significant and there was still some tourism. Like the fact that in those days there was very very much less container traffic. (In those days crates of fruit and veg used to still be brought onto the boats by porters). Lots of people have been arguing for a long time that the UA was not a sustainable model. What about exploring that ? What about exploring the question of whether it really makes sense for freight to subsidise passenger services ? I wonder if he has asked for an interview, perhaps, but if I was them I wouldn't be giving one. Why would they? They don't need to get their point across, and MW & SPCo is digging a big enough hole for themselves, and the Island has a lot of anti-SPCo sentiment anyway! Its just a hate campaign, what ever way you look at it, the SP are trying to bully mezeron in to a defeat. or at least try and make it worse. When i would say all its done has made most people who prob did not know mezeron shipped into douglas and could bring things over this way a chace to ring them up and see if they can get a better deal. No press is bad press so they say
  6. I love the way you managed to shoot a vid that could land the owner a telling off from the H&S
  7. That is true. but there is a lot of people who dont use the boats to get off the island, why should they pay for somebody to save. Also if you sub the boats then u would have to sub the air as well. as it would cause unfair trading
  8. but there is a boat in the moring. it sails at 9
  9. Why do you have to laugh? I am no lover of the SP but who says Mezzeron or anyone will want to take the SP's place. Maybe they are happy just running two full container ships and bringing in one a day and do not want to get involved further. It is the old 80-20 rule. If they have 20% of the buiness that generates 80% of the profit will they or anyone one want the other 80% for the other 20% of profits. If the SP folded would anyone step in just to do the passenger traffic and the balance of the freight without a large hand out. Imagine you are in Government and the SP struggle on for 6 months and then knock on your door a couple of days before TT is due to start and say gice us X, Y & Z or we cancel tomorrows sailing and take our boats away tomorrow. What would you do? It may turn out all sweetness and light for the Island but I am worried that we might all get a good kicking first. Id say go on then, because once you give in to black mail once they will do it time and time again. Im sorry but the SP have seen this coming. the govement have seen this coming. Now be it from to point out that there would be no room for somebody eles to set up a fright route if the SP was priceing themselfs lean, They have done this to themselfs. Any company that is the only one doing something and has high prices should expect from time to time to have others trying to get into the market. They have had an easy ride for years, and thought noboody would touch them. looks like they have been wrong. And who knows, maybe mezaron could offer a passanger services, but first they need a link span!!!. Just because 1 company says it cant afford to make a profit without certin things does not mean a diffrent company can not. I know of a few companys on this island that can undercut there rivals just because the way the companys are set up and run with the way there costs work. It boils down to who has the better company to be honest and how its run.
  10. you do have to laugh really. that in under a week the SPC have just relised there furbared. They knew this was coming they had to, as tescos and the likes would have gone to them with there new price from mezeron and said beat this. They prob thought mazeron would not be able to do it. Theres one last kick in the teeth for the SPC yet to come. while not a major kick it will be one that will put egg on there face to the few that know about it.
  11. and so it begins. sounds like a declaration of war!!!. Thing is Im sure as hell tesco would have gone to the SP and said. "mezaron have said they can ship it for this much what can you do"
  12. lol why whould they send it if it could not dock and douglas can be used at anytide
  13. co-op as well, looks like the price of a car just went up on the boat
  14. i can see your point. but why should a container fall off. it hasent happined yet in the years they done it in ramsey. and it should not happin if its done right,
  15. Well thats all well and good. But it cost to get them off the island, and can cost to get them processed. so unless you want to pay out of your own pocket then really there is no choice. There wont be that many people with old tyres in the garden, farmers have a lot yes. but they just sit in a pile doing no harm if there not used,
  16. A polite way of saying they produce dangerous substances which pollute the air. you could say that
  17. Before bailing of silage became standard practice it was 'normal' to use old tyres to hold down the plastic sheeting which covered the silage pit. This in order to keep the heat in and the oxygen out. These tyres are no longer needed. It was a form of recycling. half right. its because the numbers of dairy farms have decreased in the past 10 years and it is these farms that use tyres for pits. but they are good for using in drains
  18. i think they can only burn a certain amount because if they burn to many at one time it upsets the air read outs out of the stack,
  19. ballig bridge last week. but to be honest it was that big you could not read it. i thought a DOT white line machine had gone on the rampage for a bit
  20. i think that you will find that all Capital Government work goes out to competitive tender. be carefull with your comments! ha ha ha ha sorry i thought u were bring for real,
