  1. Thats a bit glib. Rock Services and Southern Rock Insurance's ultimate holding company is Rock Holdings Ltd, a company based on the Isle of Man, and Banks has also been a "substantial" shareholder in STM Fidecs (a Gibraltar CSP known for cutting edge tax planning) which sits over Leave.uk. Brightside makes Millions from selling sub prime UK borrowers credit agreements to buy overpriced domestic goods. Seems that in future they might be even poorer as a result of Brexit so probably a good strategic move. Ever had the feeling you've been cheated?
  2. And the people have been duped anyway. Interestingly Arron Banks, the co-founder of Leave.uk and major funder of UKIP, was on the board of Manx Financial Group (Conister Trust etc) in the not too distant past. He's basically made his money from a succession of dubious insurance companies and fleecing British chavs of their money through a number of business ventures for decades https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arron_Banks Especially Brightside the company that sells you a washing machine you could buy at B&Q for £200 for about £800 with interest over about 5 years if you have a shit credit history. He really knew how to tap into that vein of disenfranchised sub prime little englanders to pull off the whole Brexit thing. After all he's been touching them up for his own profit via Brightside and other ventures for years. The UK has perhaps been resoundly cheated by people who seem to have a long history of tapping into chavs for profit. By the way Wikipedia also documents that Rock Services and Southern Rock Insurance's ultimate holding company is Rock Holdings Ltd, a company based on the Isle of Man, and that Banks has also been a "substantial" shareholder in STM Fidecs (a Gibralter based CSP) of which Leave.EU is a subsidiary. So he clearly know how to structure stuff offshore whilst selling the EU as a bunch of UK tax sucking crooks and thieves to stupid chavs and pensioners.
  3. Just a lot of people who probably fart knowingly and silently at government subsidized media, arts, and cultural events.
  4. They'll be waiting for the official press release. Sad that someone dies so young.
  5. I'm sure it's not the first time they'd have bought in expensive consultants from SE Asia to help them out! I agree with you though. This whole plan is pie in the sky for the revenue potential on offer and I think most people can see that. Unfortunately pie in the sky schemes are a good way for civil servants to try to show the public how hard they're working and how much they are needed. It doesn't really matter if we drop the odd £500k on consultants fees to keep the whole fantasy turning over for a few more years. They'll be a few more years towards their pensions then.
  6. I didn't attack Stu Peters until he came back on what I said in my original post here: http://www.manxforums.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11182-manx-radio/?p=1125877 I stand by what I said as well. It is a retirement home for 1970s DJs, it costs us the best part of £1m a year, and I'm sure it's partially responsible for the generally low interest in local politics and low voter turn out in the IOM as its coverage of local politics is so utterly uninspired and stage managed so as not to offend government. As for Rob Callister in my opinion he needs someone to manage his image and his publicity. If he continues to act like a big mouthed attention seeking Facebook arsehole where everything and every issue seems to be solely about him then he's going to get continually called out for it. By me and by other people. I don't ask him to project himself in the way he does. He has enough sock puppets on here though when he wants to throw the crap at his opponents without sticking his head above the pavement.
  7. It was a joke for anyone who possesses a sense of humour and is familiar with Different Strokes.
  8. Unlike you who clearly has small man syndrome such is your general level of anger.
  9. Clearly you aren't. He said constructive. Not the thick as pig shit garbage you pedal. Thick as pigshit garbage? It's probably better than making serial angry posts threatening people and telling them that what they say is rubbish, or that they are stupid, or what they say is 'nonsense' which seems to be your standard response to just about anything on here. You must have a terribly small penis to make you so irrationally angry.
  10. I've listened to and enjoyed Manx Radio since it's inception as have a lot of people my age. I have no problem whatsoever with tax money being used in subvention, as MR is a great asset, it's just a shame people like you don't understand community radio. If you and Llap etc. think Energy and 3FM are anything other that "pop music" stations then you are very wrong. As for advocating people forming a protest group, FFS, get a grip. Ok grandad I get it. One day when I'm in a home weeing into my adult nappy I'm sure that I will also agree with you.
  11. You're so funny Dilligaf. Actually your not. It's a shame your illogical attachment to Manx Radio makes you ignore some of the logic in some of the debates on here. It does however show that you do indeed know a lot about comedy.
  12. No but if you are optimistic in your outlook it's possible to believe that if they stopped investing £1m into a retirement home for Smashie and Nicey they'd then have £1m to put into the health services or the fire or ambulance services etc. It might not work exactly like that but the more frivolous expenses that get dumped should logically free up more money for key services.Someone needs to tell iom politics on Facebook the amount paid out to Manx radio I'm pretty sure they'll get their pitchforks out and start marching on the nation's station Therein lies the problem too as Facebook is no substitute for a grass roots political transformation which is what is required. You have a state broadcaster on one side (as that all it is), and the unwashed internet rabble on the other posting passive rubbish on Facebook without actually being a catalyst for anything but moaning and irritating background noise. The only way to reform is through a proper political party committed to driving a change agenda that will properly engage with people off line in the various communities in the IOM about the real things that affect their lives. Not a site gathering online polls, asking for passive feedback, or other idealistic Facebook nonsense. But a real grass roots agenda for change that will challenge the likes of Manx Radio and the political establishment and kick the legs from under them. Well form one then I'm aware of a few people who may well do.
  13. Judging by the volume of your posts in here that's probably debatable.
  14. A predictable response. Why are people always referred to as "haters" when these things are challenged on the Internet like they're bullies for even questioning the whole issue? Some perfectly valid points have been made on how almost £1m of taxpayers money is spent each year. We also have a pretty poor voter turn out and a pretty low level of interest in Manx current affairs and politics which hardly creates a demand for a pubic service broadcaster of any kind. Maybe they should be asking whether it's met its public service brief given the 40% turn out rate to vote in some constituencies? Clearly nobody is interested in local matters or the local political debate in that instance. Perhaps there is a correlation between the fawning easy ride given to politicians and government workers throughout the run up to the election and the lack of in depth coverage or analysis on the real issues affecting the IOM and high levels of voter apathy?

LOL Wow that will really hit them where it hurts. A Facebook poll!

  17. I also worry about his general state of sanity (or his alcohol intake, or indeed both) but in this instance I think people are right to question the value of the taxpayer investing £1m a year into a business to provide such toothless political coverage when we have such poor voter engagement as it is. It's not like it's public service credentials are bringing anyone else to the table when it comes to the general election. In fact I'd say it's turning more people off local current affairs and politics purely because the coverage is so contrived and awful.

You really must stop chewing those F*****g lemons. You went a whole week being fairly normal, but now you're back to being a total dick. Why ? Because like many people I attach little value to the £1m we pump into Manx Radio and I would rather that we pumped the money into something that benefits society like the Police (who are saying they are horrendously underfunded), the Fire service or some other front line services. We don't need a public service broadcaster pumping out bland sycophantic state sponsored nothingness on current affairs when almost 60% of the population (as demonstrated by the voter turnout in some constituencies) has shown that they have absolutely no interest in local politics or current affairs at all. In fact I would suggest that Manx Radio is one of the main reasons why nobody cares either having listened to most of the interviews around the 2016 candidates. It could easily operate profitably. It's just got used to not having to.

  20. You must have a crystal ball then, Stu. You know exactly how long you will live. You know how much pension you will draw. What medical conditions will befall you and the treatment required. If you end up in residential care after you have exhausted your assets you also must know for how long and at what cost. In short, your assertion is unknowable. And his taxpayer subsidised salary from all those years he worked at Manx Radio.
  21. The main point people are making is that we don't really need a public service broadcaster and for the best part of £1m a year there are much better things government could be spending our money on than an expensive retirement home for 1970s DJs. The news isn't that much different to the other stations. We've also already established that very few people are interested in local politics by the terrible turnout we saw at the recent elections; and I would suggest that one of the main reasons for that lack of interest is the hideous sycophantic treatment of politicians and government in general by Manx Radio under the guise of its public service mandate. It's one of the primary reasons why people have all but given up on the ability of government and society here to deliver any form of increased accountability or change whatsoever. For the last 15 years at least it's become just like the state broadcaster in any Eastern Bloc country during the Cold War. There are much better things we could spend £1m on in these straightened times and if they are diversifying income they should be doing it quicker and with their own money not ours.
