  1. How come they needed Planning Permission to set up at St Ninian's but they apparently do not need such permission to set up in Castletown? Will the area being used be restricted to Market Square? - if so it will be significantly smaller than originally planned.
  2. Here you are - details from Linkedin. Anthony Page Experienced Fiduciary Services Director I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Director at Ashgroves Corporate Services Limited! Delighted to be back working. A massive thank you to a huge number of my connections who have offered support and advice over the last year or so.
  3. This is not on the latest Tribunals Hearings Schedule which is here: Schedule of Hearings (courts.im) Settled or postponed? Answers on the back of a fiver please.
  4. I understand that prices may have gone up but surely there must be some sort of factor for price inflation built in to the original costings. Given that each bedroom in a care home consists of a bedroom with an en-suite wet room they cannot be that expensive to build. Alright there are commercial kitchens and common areas to include in the overall cost but even so £250k per room seems high. If one was given a serviced plot of land how much would it cost to build a small one or two bed bungalow??
  5. I see that Summerhill View has gone way over budget as well - an additional £2.333m required on top of originally approved re-based budget of £12.572m. I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that it is only 18% over budget!! However what we have got is a 60 bed care home. In round figures each bed space has cost £250,000. Given that Government already owned the site this seems an astronomical cost. Is this yet another triumph of form over function with the "cottagey" appearance, false chimney stacks, stone cladding etc? All it needs is to be functional - the residents won't give a monkeys what it looks like. A "full" explanation is here: spfile (tynwald.org.im) I would love to understand more about "Failure of a key product component resulting in prolongation of the scheme." and "Changes instructed at a point in the project when all design issues should have been closed out resulting in contractual compensation events." The changes instructed when design has finished seems to be a regular failing of Government and has the contractors rubbing their hands.
  6. It is going to be interesting at St Ninian's church this TT week if this planning application gets approval: Online Services - Planning Application Details (gov.im) the spread of TT related activities seems destined to cover the area from Governors Bridge to Bray Hill. I'll bet the wrinklies in the adjacent sheltered housing will be cock-a-hoop. There doesn't appear to be any parking provision for visitors to the festival and market and if the one way system is in place on St Ninian's road again the usual chaos in the area could be exacerbated. This has the hallmarks of another DFE plan to enhance the TT experience. Will no doubt be a nice little earner for the church though.
  7. To me this highlights one of the major problems with our planning system. The proposal is submitted by a former Planning Officer who will know exactly how to set out the proposition to make it easier for her former colleagues to tick it through.
  8. But Government could have made an exemption from the AML/KYC regulations for local authority bond issuance. They chose not to do so because it gave Treasury more power over local authorities and increased the number of civil servants.
  9. The photo of Summerhill View on the Isle of Man Newspapers website is very interesting: New Douglas residential care home and day centre nears completion | iomtoday.co.im It looks like another Government triumph of form over function. The stone cladding alone must have cost a fortune and why all the chimneys. And not a sign of a solar panel!
  10. But why do they have to be trained to RYA certification levels? If our Government wanted to they could introduce a certification / qualification that meets the needs of the Island.
  11. If Government was serious about looking after the health and welfare of its employees it should make a start at the hospital. They really need to look at the, allegedly heavily subsidised, staff canteen operation there as the percentage of clearly "overweight" staff stalking the corridors seems disproportionate.
  12. The Government website has now been amended - no apology or explanation that I can see!!
  13. To my mind the worst part of this incompetence is that it would appear that no-one in any position of authority within the civil service or any of our elected representatives have looked at the releases on the Government website and told someone to get their arse in to the office and make the appropriate amendments to the number of appointees and the orientation of the photographs. If an employee of mine had done something like this the amendments would have been made by midnight on Friday. I think there should also be an explanation as to why Diana Parkes was not mentioned in the Government release. It has been suggested to me that the nomination may have emanated in the UK but surely the Isle of Man Government should have been made aware of an honour bestowed on a resident?? In a similar vein it is noteworthy that the X (formerly Twitter) feed on the front page of the Government News section of the website has not been updated since May 2022! Isle of Man Government - News It needs someone to step up to the mark and get these things sorted out - or is it the politicians and civil servants stance that they are on holiday so bollocks to it!!
  14. Burroughs Stewart Associates involved in yet another Government farce!! It really is pantomime Season.
