  1. Perhaps something to do with having to consecutively visit higher than average risk individuals? This risk to them could be mostly mitigated, if not eliminated, by not having to leave their van unless absolutely necessary as per my suggestion. So you assume there is no risk?
  2. Where does 28 come from? The law says 21 atm but.... Being well into 3 figures and drawing on decades of qualified knowledge and experience, we have chosen to self-isolate much longer than that. In fact we have decided to self-isolate until called for vaccination. Being ancient, that may not be too far distant. Naturally we planned this by filling the freezer before leaving and bringing a 4x4 packed to the gunwales with vittals including beer. Fresh fruit & veg may be the biggest limiting factor but we have good quality multivits to stave off the worst of the likes of scurvy. Fear not. You will be safe unless you are one of the poor sods sent round to check. If you are, please ring us from your van outside next time will you and we'll come to the window.👍
  3. Impressive qualification, maybe, but irrelevant. 1) Unverifiable 2) anecdotal
  4. If only. Strangely enough, I did suggest to CO a few days ago that if the property was suitable (so not flats etc) they wouldn't even need to get out of their vehicle if they just rang and said 'come to the window'. That too would be zero risk if they made it policy.
  5. Agreed (to AlanShimmin 8 mins ago)but an unannounced visit might not catch the minority idiot but does increase risk to the visitor and the visited. That risk is hard to quantify but it is not zero. Edit to add in brackets
  6. Depends on the precise circumstances. The only zero risk is if they stay away. Anything else isn't zero not matter how much you would like to ridicule the idea (as before).
  7. Not sure you have thought that through. You don't need to interact with the postman at all and can deal with the delivered post appropriately in your own time. I wouldn't dream of having delivered food when self-isolating although I can appreciate it may be eventually required if you haven't pre-planned and if you have arrived without a vehicle.
  8. Qualifications to arrive at that logical simplicity? Some of us (old enough to have zero or negative need to impress anyone about anything) might actually know quite a bit about cross-infection and its prevention. Self-isolation in this context should mean just that and isolated from everyone except trained medical personnel appropriately protected.
  9. I am 101% for the Covid cross infection prevention measures. I might even be easily persuaded that the punishment for breaking self-isolation is warranted..but I am currently self-isolating and nothing but a real and verifiable emergency would have me even thinking of breaking it, yet we are treated like idiots who might. If you are self-isolating you should be isolated from everyone including the poor sods who are sent round to check if you might have been naughty and been out.
  10. ? European Human rights. Eu is summat different.
  11. If you were anywhere else on earth I doubt that would be an issue anyway but would anyone, really divert a call to another landline or a mobile and then go out and be seen? Really? Nah.... What happens if you are in a flat and have to come down 4 flights of stairs to confirm you are in and it is you? Not sure this has been that well thought out.
  12. Hmmm seems a bit daft unless someone has complained that you've been out and about in which case it should be the police. I have no problem with them ringing the land line to check you're in but turning up, unannounced, after likely visiting other high risk arrivals over the past 21 days, seems to add cross-infection risk not reduce it.
  13. Has anyone had a visit from the Cabinet Office whilst in self-isolation?
  14. Don't think Donny has thought that through (no surprise there...) Surely only idiots would agree that it's worth a try but wouldn't that decimate his fan base?
  15. @ Rog's triggering post Having been to Peenemünde , the museum there showed that the reality would have been that they would have targeted every single UK city and its civilian population had the technically amazing V2 been flying 1-2 years earlier with sufficient numbers. There is little doubt this would have changed the outcome of the war they started. In fact after development and production was moved to Nordhausen they were trying to work out if they could increase the range as far as New York. Mind you with a fuel burn of over 2 tonnes a minute, it might have been quite a technological challenge. Dresden was wrong but let's not get misty eyed about the Nazi intention. They would have done much worse to us had this truly awesome weapon been available earlier.
  16. Is this blondie who has since been outed as an alleged EDL sympathiser and may have been been (re)'selected' for another QT 'audience' less than a year ago by Alison Fuller Pedley ? It's been obvious to me for some time that audiences for QT were specially selected (and pre-on air rehearsed) but Mentorn Media are coming under ever closer scrutiny now. No wonder the BBC is loosing credibility by the day. Ask yourself why Blondie is still apoplectic having got what she wanted..... Update : Blondie is believed to be Sherri B (surname now changed by marriage to P). who allegedly stood as a NF candidate in a NE London constituency in a general election. Now... was she selected by Pedley* apparently for her imo unenviable CV and did she get seated on the front row by accident? Who put a clip of the QT rant put on SM? Questions Questions about Question Time. I think an enquiry might be in order.
  17. Yep fair drawbridge points. Nothing is forever but when I worked in Oldham back in the 80s it was common to hear migrant's UK born progeny to be anti further immigration. I still can't grasp the real reason for that.
  18. Nobody even half reasonable (so not Steptoe then) is advocating an open door policy. Even the EU law (which is now irrelevant) makes a distinction between those who work and better themselves and those that don't and criminals. Despite woody's oft used example of the 3 ?Poles who escaped deportation on UK lawyer driven human rights arguments, we could have sent back any who did not work/could not support themselves financially but never did. If we had done this like Spain and France always have, I think brexit would not have happened. Trouble is, we have no ID system or coherent way of tracking "holidaymakers" (EU visitors staying up to 3 months) so many took the p enabling the charalatan in chief to falsely blame the EU which was misdescribed as forcing us to keep them We could now have our own similar system where a minimal time, enforced by visa, was required to establish oneself financially and if not...offski. Patel's parents eg would have met such a requirement. Enforcing something this is the opposite of an open door policy but ultimately it depends on whether we want to cut off our noses etc or have an ID system. I suspect the former will appeal more.
  19. It is future principle that we are discussing. Much is made of 'worthy' migrants but this policy will exclude potentially very worthy migrants because their parents may not be high earners. Regretfully, there may be many very capable persons excluded because of the new rules. I can think of one person I know very well since we were students who came to the UK from Kenya in the 70s with nothing financial or academic. He now has significant business interests in Essex and Kent which have made him a multi millionaire. Whilst woody will dilute the point by saying he may be presently excluded from Kenya using modern criteria, we are about to invoke this to millions much nearer home to our imo considerable detriment.
  20. Which is an 'answer' to a question not asked. How about answering the point that Patel would not have been able to move here under the rules she is proposing if her parents had, for example, Swedish passports and, say, did not earn enough.
  21. So we do have some control of our borders? However the actual point which went ''whoosh" or more likely you chose to ignore was that Patel would not be here now as HS under the more restrictive changes she is planning. Just imagine the wealth of future ability you will now reject because their European parents do not have adequate earning potential (rather than actual ability).
  22. Pritti Patel's "unskilled" parents wouldn't have got through this proposed system when they arrived from Uganda. Just imagine, for 1 second, not having been able to benefit from Ms. Patel's undoubted charms....
