Freggyragh Posted February 11, 2008 Posted February 11, 2008 don't you dummies know what a haiku is? The syllable count is unimportant. The key points are the 'nature' theme, the seasonal reference and the juxtaposition of either the second or third line. A very, very difficult genre - misunderstood in English culture because of English teachers teaching it as part of a prescribed curriculum, despite having never studied the form themselves - and then encouraging the kids to have a go, and giving a tick if it has seventeen syllables. Rhumsaa has posted the only real Haiku so far - and he nicked it from Basho (I think).
