Mr. Sausages
I played golf at Castletown Golf Links in September 2008 and the hotel was all closed up then. I've heard from some friends who were members at the golf club that the hotel was being used as a clubhouse, but after a falling out of some sort, this seems to have ended. They've now left the club as there's no clubhouse to use, bar, toilets or shower facilities etc. When the weathers bleak, it nice to have somewhere to warm up again! Is the club still functioning? Where do they meet, or is it all run out of the pro's shop now? Club's still running, but with no clubhouse it's a bit of a mess. Played scratch league there last year and they had to take us to the pub for food afterwards. Mike Brooks (the pro, who was excellent) left last year. Membership is falling thanks to the clubhouse situation, and a few have left because of the huge pot bunkers that have been put on every hole. Island championships were due to be played there this year, but have been moved to Mt Murray because there's nowhere to get changed. A cynical person might think they were trying to get rid of the members (and then the course).
Snaipyr
ferguson lacey plays the long game .. i believe that he never intended whatsoever in keeping the businesses as going concerns. let em rot and rebiuld is his form. example the old post office biulding just of bucks rd. same with eurodisney. buy it .. break it .. redevelope it .. sell it. if the planners dont go his way . then let it rot until they are glad to get an eyesore redeveloped.. he has done rather well out of it.. Not just him - echos of The Majestic and now The Grand Island. Lovely locations for unlovely apartment buildings.
Tempus Fugit
GFL seems to have a 'thing' about extremities, allegedly owns Lands End and John O'Groats, a hotel and golf course on the Isle of Islay, Hampton Court, as well as the world's largest tyrannosaurus rex skull, a knitting pattern company (?), and seems to be making lots of news and comment around Millwall FC I wonder what other stuff comes up on 90091e .... ? While the course was never as good as it was made out - due to lack of maintenance around the periphery - rather than the playing surfaces themselves - it is still the jewel in the Manx crown, if he's really got some cunning plan to close the course, it would be a disaster for manx golf IMO. If Brooks left, is there not even a pro there now? What about Peel, who runs that shop after Murray retired?
Minxie
I heard that the Sefton Group have taken over the Golf Links, but not sure if that's correct.
