pongo
When it comes to white british pop music with lyrics - David Bowie & The Fall pretty much define and cover the entire genre and spectrum. It has nothing much else to do. British rock and pop has been done and has nowhere else to go. So I would be inclined to vote for classical or folk music or for overseas artists. The available British bands are just covers and tribute bands.

They all are basically tribute acts or else they are bands which only worked when they were current - old bands reforming out of time is awful and undermines what they once did which was once good. Great old bands never reform. If they do it degrades what they once did which was once great ETA: possible exception in that list of the Arctic Monkeys who are somehow somewhat original. You know exactly what I mean by tribute acts - U2 UK etc. Most of the bands I listed(with a few exceptions) are still going. No friggin Quill either.
