Frances Posted February 21, 2010 Share Posted February 21, 2010 B&O are still there - not sure Hi fi but certainly expensive status symbols for those who care more for appearance than the sound - however the sound is not unpleasant. I don't think there is a hifi dealer on the Island - I bought some decent speakers recently but the supplier would deliver to the Island after I auditioned them at a local dealer in SE England (he also got his cut!) - the dealer informed me(he having a Manx mother so got quite chatty) that in past that they had supplied hifi units via Colebourns so it may well be worth asking there but AFAIK they are not really hifi stockists Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've seldom seen such uncritical independent reviews that so are chock-full of corporate visuals and quotations. Of course, this could be just the way US sites do reviews. OTOH, I have heard that many B&O customers are fiercly loyal to the brand and experience longevity to the kit which is unusual for consumer electronics. It pleases me though when someone who has never even heard of the brand (probably about 90% on the island!) comes in, just for a browse, and are clearly "blown away" by some of our products, regardless of content, and whether in the market or not. It's also quite refreshing that although we live in a disposable world (and let's face it, that's how most manufacturers survive) some of our customers are still integrating new items with existing equipment they've had for 30 years or more. Although I am not a fan of the B&O sound, I feel that their styling is second to none. The above point is good though, we live in a disposable world where people have become used to "cheap" equipment in price, quality and performance. It is only when you experience top quality equipment that you can apprieciate how good it can really be. This is very much a british thing. Most manufacturers still have top end equipment but dont bother importing it to UK. Take for example JBL. In the UK these days they are associated with cheap ipod docks and plastic speakers. Yet they still produce arguabley the best speakers in the world (the K2 series). The same sort of thing can be said for Pioneer, Marantz, Panasonic (Technics), Sony and many others. There are very few items that are made these days that are meant to last more than a few years, but they are available. Sadly very few in this country.
