Slim
I'd agree, I don't think their limits are appropriate here. I think a 70 national limit would be appropriate for our roads. I would like to see lower speeds in towns though.

doc.fixit
55mph all island limit sounds reasonable. why do you need to go faster on a public highway unless its dual carriageway or motorway?? my motor does 155 mph and I am very happy indeed to use that power on the big roads in Europe, but, I still think a max of 55 is about right on this island. woody2
road speed limits need to be at different levels depending on the road otherwise boredom and lack of concentration increases leading to more accidents
manxman1980
Enforcing an island wide limit would be very difficult without the use of speed cameras. In my experience the standard speed camera only makes people slow as they pass it. Worse than that is the sudden braking as they spot them. Not necessarily against an island wide limit but I am realistic that enforcement on the lesser used world be very difficult.

Certainly to much longer journeys than you'd encounter on the IoM.

Vulgarian
no, residential areas the recommendation was to remove paths, cycle lanes, and parked cars which naturally would slow all wheeled traffic down, as already tried elsewhere to great success I'm confused. How would removing paths, cycle lanes, and parked cars slow traffic?
Slim
I'm confused. How would removing paths, cycle lanes, and parked cars slow traffic? It's a 'shared space', works in some specific places, but it does seem to confuse when there's any kind of heavy traffic flow: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_space I suppose douglas quay is a sort of half harted stab at a share space since they removed the kerb. Doesn't really work though, people just park on the pavement.
