  1. Let's just leave this here... There's a clear influence of Johan Cruyff from a man who was managing <<Dutch Club>>, while his players have mentioned how <<Dutch Manager>> demands that his team constantly attack.
  2. Arne Slot it is then... A Dutch manager with an administration for Pep Guardiola and a reputation for an attention to tactical discipline. Reminds me of a description of someone else....
  3. Did it stop bullying? No. Its not just the direct interaction. Its spreading rumours or lies about someone online. They can also now use digitally manipulated pictures to further bully someone of humiliate them. Blocking the perpetrator doesn't stop them posting and commenting amongst others in the same school.
  4. I don't think the poor performances at United are all down to Ten Hag. United have had Mourinho and Van Gaal both of whom have had great successes elsewhere and they had limited success. Unfortunately it seems as if the culture at the club is the issue and that the rot set in with the Glazers taking ownership. That got worse with the departure of Ferguson who was really performing the role of Director of Football as well as Manager and the club was set up to facilitate him in that process. It appears that the issue at United is the scattergun signings, the culture throughout the club and the players downing tools. Ten Hag at least confronted some of the issues in the squad but now that results and performances are going backwards he is losing that fight.
  5. It may not have happened but there was a legal mechanism in place to do so. It was just that the Government of that time chose to rarely use it...
  6. I have experience of being bullied at school but that was years ago. It went on before I attended school and I am not surprised to hear that it continues today. Has the extent of the bullying whilst in school got worse? Is the physical abuse worse now than in the past? I am not seeking to downplay the concerns but wanting to explore why you have started this discussion now? This I totally agree with. I cannot imagine how it must feel to be in a situation where you cannot escape the bullying. Even quitting social media is likely to lead to increased bullying as you would be differentiating yourself from everyone else. That also does not stop others using social media to spread malicious rumours.
  7. Wasn't leaving the EU partly about not having non-elected people making decisions? Cameron is non-elected and holds the position of Foreign Secretary...
  8. Back to Liverpool... Arne Slot as the next Manager? Apparently Liverpool fans are "all in" on his appointment. Really? Liverpool are going to follow United and appointment someone from the Dutch league? Also seen Mourinho's name getting mentioned. Now that would be a laugh!
  9. How much time would you allow between the event being challenged and a break in play? That approach goes back to the problem that @Declan outlined before about play continuing as if nothing had happened before being brought back and potentially something else happens like an injury in the time between.
  10. I think there is an inherent risk that "challenges" would be used as a method to disrupt play. The Coventry "goal" would be a good example where United may have challenged the tackle on Fernandes to stop the counter attack and even if the challenge was unsuccessful they do get the opportunity to regroup and prevent the attack.
  11. @Passing Time 1. That looks more like a clown shoe than a football boot. 2. Do they really contour the lines like that? They are after all a digitally applied line and not a shadow.
  12. Isn't it also a rule that both teams must have the same number of players on the pitch for a penalty shoot out? Meaning if either Martinez or Onana had been set off then the opposing team would also have had to remove a player.
  13. Sorry that you don't like United benefiting from this decision, however, there is not a perfect solution at the moment. People were unhappy with decisions pre-VAR and they are now unhappy with decisions it makes. Until an automatic system is approved then I am afraid we either stick with what we have or go back to the previous imperfect decisions.
  14. Natural maybe, however, have you forgot the tedious lengthy debates about whether or not someone was onside in the pre-VAR days? People were desperate for VAR then and now because of the delay and the fact that a decision doesn't go the way they would like it is despised. I don't mind the offside decisions. It is the inconsistency around penalty decisions that bother me.
  15. And there will be many who didn't support Hamas but were unable to leave Gaza or were held there against their will by Hamas. Which is surely why measures should be taken to minimise the risk to innocent civilians? Killing innocent people is the perfect propaganda for terrorist groups to use as recruitment material.
  16. Absolutely its risky but the approach they have taken has led to more people in Gaza supporting Hamas and strengthened the will of those who were already supporters. Quilp was dismissive before but Hamas will be seen by some as freedom fighters. Even amongst those who condemn Hamas and their terrorist actions it has created a surge of support for Palestinians and a distrust of the Israeli Government. Sadly this whole conflict has also escalated anti-semetism with more and more stereotypical tropes appearing online and in particular on social media. The Israeli Government needs to listen to tge Israeli people, and the families of those taken as hostages. They also need to listen to their allies before the whole conflict goes to far. Drawing Iran into an open conflict is a bad idea. It has strengthened its hold on the area and also built up links with China and Russia. The USA, particularly if Trump is elected, is not going to stop a wider conflict.
  17. If the IDF are as good as you and others suggest then go door to door in pursuit of Hamas. It is a small area with all routes of escape closed. Don't just destroy everything and everyone. I believe you may be ex-military. As such did you not understand that you could be sent into harms way amd expected to do an extremely difficult job that could result in you losing your life? There is unfortunately no ideal solution but the preservation of innocent civilian life should be high on the list of considerations. I understand that you will disagree with me. @Chinahand I was being careful which is why I did not say that it was Genocide.
  18. A little but of calm considering Iran's attack harmed/damaged nothing. This is just escalation and is going to prompt Iran to retaliate further. I would suggest a more measured campaign that would not have been described as possible genocide by the ICJ.
  19. FFS... https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2024/apr/19/middle-east-crisis-live-updates-iran-israel-today-explosions-isfahan Looks like the hothead won out.
  20. Several of us have said repeatedly that the Israeli Governments actions in Gaza overstepped a reasonable response and from that point on were only ever going to create new Hamas supporters. What would be interesting is a poll of the same people about their views pre 7 October. Again to reiterate my stance I agree that Israel had a right to defend itself. I disagree with the methods the Israeli Government has used and the resulting loss of life in Gaza. I also do not support Hamas and condemn their actions on the 7 October. There have been too many innocent people killed on both sides already and, as I have said before, I believe the remaining hostages are all sadly dead.
  21. They are prejudices and that is borne out by your reaction to the Sydney Mall stabbing. Your prejudice allowed you to jump to the conclusion that that attack was a terrorist attack by a religious extremist. You are now using the second stabbing to justify your prejudice in the first case. Which brings us to: Innocent people do get caught up in these though and a fairly regular basis. On Christmas Eve 2022 a woman lost her life when she was shot dead outside a pub on the Wirral. Several others were seriously injured in that instance as well. In August that same year Olivia Pratt-Korbel was killed after a stranger burst into her home and the person pursuing shot her. Up to March this year nice people have been left dead and 23 injured in school shootings in the US. All I am saying is that you need to stop assuming that every knife attack or shooting of innocents is done in the name of religious extremism.
  22. Yes, all parties should show restraint. I am not just critical of the Israeli Government but Iran has simply used the same justification as Israel did. Iran are claiming "self-defence" following an attack on a consulate by another state. I don't support what Iran did but I can imagine that Tehran felt that not responding would weaken their position in the region. Which rather just illustrates my point... How many wars have been fought over contested territory throughout human history. If you do not want to look at history then point to any country which would be happy to have a piece, or all of it, given away to another people by a foreign power.
  23. @P.K. do you genuinely believe that the Israeli Government has done nothing worthy of criticism in its response to the terrible attack on the 7th October? Even Israel's allies have been calling for restraint both prior to and after the missile and drone attack by Iran. I cannot help but wonder what happened to the aim of rescuing the hostages that were taken on the 7th October. I suspect that they will all have been killed either by Hamas or by the Israeli attacks unless they were somehow evacuated out of Gaza by Hamas. Trying to unpick any of this is a nightmare and unfortunately is the consequence of the decision in the 1940's to gift the Jewish people a new state in an area that people were already living. In the end I don't think it would have mattered where the new state of Israel was created as gifting a country/state where people were already living to another group of people is always going to cause an issue. Look what happened when chunks of land in Northern Ireland were taken from the existing Catholic population and gifted to Presbyterian Scots. How long did it take to resolve that one?
