It may look okay now but give it a few years, it will not weather well unlike the old one that looked quaint and suited the surroundings. Regarding the trend for paving everywhere and anything not moving there is an advert for a paving overseerer in the Courier so god knows where they are going to pave next, they must have got a job lot of paving stones or know womeone that sells them whatever.gif

The station looks OK. It will weather in over time. If you didn't know what it looked like before, you would not find the look unusual. What was that? Gravel trodden into mud?

Paving stones have been around for a few weeks! now, nothing glaringly unusual about them. The gravel can be changed if it becomes oil soaked or stirred up and added to.

There are more important things to castigate our Govt for than Laxey station! Not as tho' it is going to lose us quarter of a million tourists, is it?

No, it isn't. It's just a real shame that the Island "where you can" settles for a second rate, colourless, mass-market, regenerate-by-numbers, it-could-be-any-faceless-English dross-scape that now disfigures what was once a pleasant little corner of a pleasant little village. We get given shit and appear happy to live among it.

It looks fine. But Laxey really needs to get a grip with the parking on the main road, it's an absolute nuisance. All that trouble and expense and still no adequate parking.

Could never understand as to why they didn't put the walkway on the inner side of the wall.

This would have meant another few feet would be available for parking and a two way unobstructed road.

Can honestly say I've never seen any part of England that looks like Laxey Station. I've seen plenty of shitholes in England covered in gloomy tarmac - you know, like it used to be in Laxey station. It's ashame we'll never get a proper old school quaint English style village here - small, village green, quiet road with pub and church. We don't do quaint here though, its not England after all and we want our own identity - not actually sure how our towns and villages do differ from "faceless-English-dross" though. Most of our towns and large villages aren't what you'd consider to be overly attractive in comparison.

Laxey station hasn't been particularly pleasant for years. It's much more pleasant now and incorporated into the village better via the square. The square does lack "something" in the middle though. And if they moved the petrol station out of the centre of the village, maybe they could use some of the space for parking

How would you have done it? It isn't as if there are that many variables to play with. Unless you want to radically alter the track alignment and replace the buildings and furniture entirely, it just comes down to surface and fixtures and fittings, like railings and tram poles. The choices were made, and they don't please everyone. Plus ça change.

Exactly.

I'm glad the Philistines had the sense to keep those rustic kiosks after somebody objected to their removal. They are a distinctive feature of Laxey tram station.

And the rough seats they have added emphasise that look.

The rest of Laxey (like most villages round the island) needs a coat of paint and some tidying up.
