Laxey Station

Due to open March 23rd is Islands latest example of chronic incompetence and massive waste of public funds

If this were a competition then Laxey Station would not even be in the top ten of embarrasing public sector fuck-ups, but it shows how even on a limited budget we can still produce ill conceived projects that will make us a laughing stock

What was a rather tatty but charming Victorian tram station has now been infected with the disease of granite paving which is covering our towns like a rash

The culprits in this tragic venture were Ian Longworth (Bendy Buses) head of bus & rail and David Millar (Dalrymple Assc. no relation to ex chief minister)

Quite how they battered Laxey Regeneration Committee into submission over this is unclear, but apparently several concessions were made to lessen the Canary Wharf style glass & stainless steel features

The resulting mess has triggered a backlash from the public, so expect to hear denials and blame shifting from those involved

I had a quick look today with an open mind hoping it was not as bad as it's been portrayed. I was wrong! What was a charming Victorian tramway station which has probably altered little in more than a hundred years is being plastered in soulless granite, in keeping with nothing in Laxey or anywhere on the Island, save the places they've already thrown millions at this expensive shit.

I've yet to meet anyone with a good word to say about the works!

One of the nicest small villages on the Island (Apart from the 'new' MER station)....especially the people living there.
