Douglas Carnival

I was enthusiastic when this carnival was revived a few years ago, but sadly I agree.  It’s a pathetic affair without a single float or costume that was anywhere near the standard of the original ones.  Have a look at the efforts made in Notting Hill, Trinidad or Rio for a bit of inspiration, please.

Few population stats to help with perspective:-

London  - 8,100,000

Trinidad - 1,300,000

Rio - 6,300,000

Isle of Man - 83,000 (mostly thickos, mouth breathers and moaners)

Moving on........

Yeah maybe - but when we had 10K and 20K less population it was much better.

No need to compare to them.

Just compare what is presented now with what the REAL carnival was like until the majorettes killed it.

When we were kids, we used to make the effort. Pubs would put floats in. They should have left it dead and buried

What killed the carnival was the introduction of majorettes, fucking masses of them.

Most people just gave up on principal and were disillusioned.
