  1. 'Cock Follies' maybe then? ...You need to be a certain age to remember what that's from 😀
  2. 60's, 70's and 80's cars often used to crumple on impact in those days too, a lot of modern cars tend to stay intact and bounce around a lot more in an accident - even when clobbering into an SUV.
  3. It's more complicated these days...they've got those new fangled jets to cope with now too.
  4. There has always been a major issue on the island, in terms of managers failing to deal with problem or problem-causing employees, particularly in the civil and public services, though I have also seen it in several private companies here - more of a problem than I've ever seen when working for companies in the UK. Possibly it's related to the fact that we are generally a small community and don't like sacking our neighbours, but I think in my experience it's more a general lack of quality management training and experience, and a lack of risk awareness in terms of the likely outcomes for the business. The result on the island is, 'when the going gets tough, the best get going'. .
  5. Logic would dictate that, generally, shouldn't be the case, given all the advancements in vehicle technology over the past 40 years. Though you could be right. I suspect you're more likely remembering many of the more 'spectacular' accidents you had to deal with, particularly on the TT course over the years. Though there is a no-MoT requirement on the island that could possibly back you up and a lot more older cars on the road here. And aren't many of the hedges and banks on the TT course (and all around the island) angled too - effectively in favour of an at-speed roll over? As a marshal, this is what scared the shit out of me when the likes of the Subaru laps were taking place during the TT - and the completely different roadside dynamics and likely outcomes should the car have left the course. Those laps were ill-advised IMO, and I'd have shut them down. Come off and roll down the mountain or Marine Drive at speed and it's pretty much 50:50, particularly given even in the fields and slopes there are numerous obstacles to clobber on the way down (such as rocks and posts etc.). We found a car halfway down the mountain a few years back, and were told (by the marks and evidence) that in only around 250 yards it had rolled an estimated 14 times before landing right way up in that case. But of course, the cops don't get called to all accidents do they, i.e. if there are no injuries or criminal damage. And I'll wager 99% of those accidents are vehicle right-side-up. .
  6. Some people will try anything to win a Darwin award.
  7. We've not heard much from PM in a year or more.
  8. This. It's bollox, we'll end up with a lot of rotting properties that no one in their right mind will go near. They might list these properties but most of them will serve no function and end up falling over in 30 years. It's an addiction to Victorian and Edwardian times that serves no purpose. The planning committee seems to consist of people that holidayed here in the 50s or run Manx nostalgia on Facebook. Maybe keep or rebuild the facia, but so many of these places were noddy built in the first instance and need getting rid of and made fit for purpose.
  9. I watched a documentary on Michelle Mone's bra empire on 'Channel Fwarrr!' recently!
  10. Ah...it's finished. Might I suggest "Where the f**k did you all go?"
  11. You've gotta to come up with a good question though. I'm sure we can suggest one on MF 😀
  12. Descended from Pilferaptor.
  13. They're going over the drag Queens in schools issue again too?
  14. It's the very same water that previously went through 200 million dinosaurs and 20,000 scousers.
  15. Bit mean. They're just keeping us abreast of the facts.
  16. "Michelle Mone shuts down more businesses from empire amid PPE fraud probe". IOM mentioned. https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/michelle-mone-shuts-down-more-32633904.amp
  17. Pretty sure I'm picking up that covid travel is still down around 8% before covid started. Add 8% (though more like 30%) to your business operating costs too, little wonder businesses are struggling. Even if they travel, people are also generally spending less currently, as they have faced inflation too. Covid also changed a lot of travel habits. Some will probably prioritise cheaper foreign packages in the sun first. Some will have discovered the UK over covid and have realised there's a lot of nice places to go to there, and they are a lot cheaper to get to than the island. .
