  1. A lot have indeed just pulled out. Some investors buying rental properties here have outsourced the management of their assets (simply because of the threat of legislation) and now we have many more additional middlemen managing rental properties on their behalf - all adding their own 10 to 20% to the rent.
  2. Given the number of under 30s we have lost here, particularly since 2011 (see censuses), it is not surprising to me that a lot more older people will now be considering leaving too, especially if they now have young grandchildren in the UK. Many of these will be on fairly good salaries in their 40s and 50s. Successive governments here from 2006 have made it more and more difficult for young people to be able to afford to live here. At the last election 90% of candidates had their main priority as 'affordable housing' and yet none of them have done anything about it. We've also imported a lot of older people, who are downsizing in the UK and buying up what would be first-time buyer houses here - making it near impossible for the young to get on the ladder. The birth rate here has practically collapsed, so the demographics are going to be financially catastrophic in another 20 years. Government have also recruited far more people from the UK and afar - instead of developing talent here. I've said it before, the Manx are essentially being financially cleansed from their own island - and their own government are driving it.
  3. Probably only two people then 😀
  4. Just an observation. Phil Gawne was a political arsonist wasn't he? By definition, is that not a terrorist today? Well, he is a ham-has-been.
  5. There were two pilots onboard apparently, my first guess would be a technical failure, second guess they got distracted for some major or stupid reason.
  6. You're moaning about 35 quid. I've put in 127 timesheets and not got a single reply yet 😀
  7. Exactly...an Invision function, not MF.
  8. The Invision developers have been going a long time, and they have to take into account all kinds of legacy and other implementations and all the demands that go with those. Probably easier just to drop Uni the 20 quid next time and he'll sort a good home for it 😀 I don't think Uni does it for the few subscriptions....don't underestimate how we'd be screwed without him (and I know you don't). https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invision_Community
  9. It's not MF, it's the off-the-shelf software package used for the forums and the stuff that is built into it. You can just choose to ignore most of what you don't like.
  10. It's a poor back door attempt to wasting £millions on a cruise terminal IMO.
  11. It was not related to Ukraine, they are seeking revenge for Chechnya, Syria and other Russian atrocities against their kind. Only Russia tried to link the two as it suits their current propaganda. Trouble is they keep getting innocent people instead of the right ones.
  12. Still nothing on the MR website about it....unless it was on live news? Kind of does ring of 'never bite the hand that feeds you'.
  13. 5 arrested for drink/drug driving in one week. That's worse than the usual Xmas bunch. https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/five-arrested-for-drink-driving-in-just-one-week/
  14. You should try playing Manx Monopoly. It's got Manx Telecom, Manx Gas, Manx Utilities and a few others on there too. Someone's nicked all the community cards though, and there are 15 'Go to jail for trivia' spaces. All the houses are the same price, but there are no hotels. And all players need £10k to start, which doesn't actually come with the game here.
  15. Sorry...we only do something when you don't pay...
  16. There are people with severe gambling issues on island, as there are elsewhere. I went to a charity presentation about 6 years ago on the subject and even then there were nearly 200 people with a serious addiction here (lost houses, spouses, life down the pan etc.). There will always be a balance: people pushing for tighter regulation and companies pushing for more customers. Same as with the tobacco and booze industries. You can't have outright bans for a minority of weak minded people, all you can do is get the balance right to try and filter them out the system before they run into trouble - and that's the way gambling legislation is pushing hard these days. Even insurance is gambling - you bet you are going to crash your car - they calculate and take the bet - and hope you don't.
  17. Though there are some services that you can't block adverts on - such as youtube? I am getting hammered by stupid adverts on that in the UK at the moment. Anyone who has a free solution gets a pint.
