  1. Pretty sure I'm picking up that covid travel is still down around 8% before covid started. Add 8% (though more like 30%) to your business operating costs too, little wonder businesses are struggling. Even if they travel, people are also generally spending less currently, as they have faced inflation too. Covid also changed a lot of travel habits. Some will probably prioritise cheaper foreign packages in the sun first. Some will have discovered the UK over covid and have realised there's a lot of nice places to go to there, and they are a lot cheaper to get to than the island. .
  2. Corpy is same as central government - controlled by staff - with puppet politicians who get blustered by HR and corporate bullplop and end up forced to having to put rates up. Another place that needs a major overhaul.
  3. Well...I guess this the fundamental question. When do social media sites step in before things get serious? This got serious, a court process started, he got convicted and yet his account is still up. If someone reported someone in Strand Street for the same behaviour, who would step in when? Would they let it get all the way to court? I think I'm saying that the mental health services remit might have to be adapted, particularly when things look to be getting serious. Strand St v Online.
  4. You say that...but he has been allowed to carry on with his behaviour to the point that he got locked up. Could have been a lot more serious, given the case. I think that's a gap...and a very public one.
  5. Now that is the big rip-off.
  6. This is why the IOM taxpayer has been writing cheques for £40+million a year recently to top up a failed CS pension scheme.
  7. Very true, biggest I heard of so far (first hand) was a deputy at Social Services on £80k pension P/A. And that was at least 10 years ago we talked together about that.
  8. A passport is a complex electronic doc. I paid 30p a sheet for a single B&W page printed today (50p for the first page). Then there are checks to be done in many cases on passports. TBH, it doesn't sound too much of a rip off to me every 10 years. Especially for 10 holidays (one a year). Think I paid £72 for mine nearly 10 years ago, so that's about right for inflation IMO. .
  9. He'll be on a £50k per annum pension...probably more.
  10. I thought it was £88.50 v £100 now?
  11. We get some nut jobs on MF sometimes, but some of these court cases often take it to a new level. It's not so much social media...more sociopathic media in an ever increasing number of cases. There are major gaps in mental health care here. And many are falling through the net very publically on social media. But when fantasy aligns with reality for them, these people need sorting out as they can do real harm.
  12. I was just how amazed how simple it was. Extra cost on island obviously more admin and stealth taxes.
  13. In the UK currently. Popped into the printers to get some docs printed. They have a machine - passport, photos and all £82. All applied for in seconds - saw 3 people do it while waiting.
  14. Given the court outcome, and crap on there, surely that is sufficient justification for Twitter to shut down the account?
  15. Fook knows how they are expecting 1800 jobs being filled by 2026. People are actually leaving because of these high costs and few are arriving and staying.
  16. Everyone is innocent until proved guilty or a demonstrative risk.
  17. Most of us are only anonymous on MF. I tried it with the tax office, but they wouldn't have it.
  18. Welcome to the private sector.
  19. Thomas is likely to see correspondence and minutes etc. that we will never see. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one for now. As for backbenchers working together. Well, you get to 13 and you suddenly have a majority. Things can change rapidly with a majority.
  20. She always sounds as thick as toast to me.
  21. Prawns are the Woodlice of the sea.
  22. I'm locking this thread till any of this is confirmed or not.
  23. ...and ExxonMobil, BP and Texaco too unfortunately. .
  24. That particular standard disappeared from Manx public life 50 years ago.
  25. Why should anyone have to resign over someone else's wrongdoing?
