What would they be expecting them to be paying their rates with? Monopoly money? Chocolate buttons? Etc. But it’s not the Corpy or Cllr Christian you should be turning your ire upon. They have a statutory duty to collect. They can’t decided not to. Only place that can change this is Tynwald.

It’s up to him to lobby Tynwald if he’s worried about shortfalls because let’s face it many people won’t be paying their rates demands regardless of any public statement he might make. Some local authorities in the UK have already furloughed staff to try to align cash flow with expected reductions on council tax collected. He has the full ability to take responsible and prudent measures to reduce costs and the burden on ratepayers as he certainly won’t be getting a good % of peoples money this year that’s for sure. Demanding that people with no money still pay you money is a bit futile really.

No but Christian and the rest of them could be reducing costs by cutting some very expensive management posts, cutting subsidies for golf course, bowling greens etc and making them pay their own way. Christian should tax Christians. A tax on religious organisations would be revolutionary!

Hardly anyone goes to church. Not much left to tax there.
