The absence of commentary (not that it needed any, it tells its own story) kept it neutral and without distraction, the ambiant sound provided atmosphere. Loved it. Xanax, benzo's, opioid's, quaalude's, etc. And moonshiners. Most having a pitiful and grim back-story of childhood physical/sexual abuse, junkie parents, mental issues, familiar tales describing how and why they got where they are. The 'Soft White Underbelly' site takes some of them off the street and into the studio for interview. Raw stuff and almost living art in some abstract way.
