  2. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/25/get-brexit-done-reality-far-more-difficult-tortuous-european-union Brexit day is just the beginning. We face many years of complexity subject to EU rules and influence. The above appears to include a lot from the BBC News website item and is worth a read..
  3. Apparently one of the govt law officers is waiting until after the election to see if Prince Andrew could be prosecuted in the context of a trafficked person forced into sex services which I suppose is a crime. This issue Scotland yard has avoided so far. Anyone fancy being the DCI or whatever given the job of prosecuting a royal prince in the name of his Mum the Queen? Promotion and pension or resign and take the money afterwards? I suppose such a case would be R v Andrew in some form of name??? That would create an interesting constitutional issue I imagine??
  4. The entire present day monarchy is a relatively new legal construct invented by parliament progressively following the republic stemming from the civil war. If there is sufficient public demand we can legislate the monarchy away. The monarchy was restored on the understanding that the monarch be a mere figurehead. George III signed away any vestigial powers in return for an annual payment. He also gave up the responsibility of financing such as the army and the civil administration. Edward VIII's position was impacted by parliament and he ended up in exile. The Wallis Simpson marriage was not acceptable. In recent times parliament has made it possible for the first born to be monarch even if female rather than male precedence as was. The royals and PM's sniff the wind. The pressure will not be end of monarchy but fewer of them doing public duties for which they get a stipend. Fewer on the balcony and smaller group photos. Unlike the Netherlands I doubt we will see a king or queen going round on a bike and shopping in Waitrose.... As was drummed into me at school. The monarch reigns but parliament governs. If we wanted it we could have a republic with no violence at all....save like Brexit amongst ourselves...Just like the civil war, cavaliers v roundheads etc....

  8. The CTA you know very well predates Brexit issues by almost 100 years. Boris confused it with the EU free movement
  9. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/nov/08/boris-johnson-goods-from-northern-ireland-to-gb-wont-be-checked-brexit More about Boris and his lies. Seems he mistook the Common Travel Area for freedom of movement.
  10. Attlee etc were dealing with a nation suffering far more poverty than today and also trying to recover from a war. In those days the young folk said we will fight this war for you but there had better be a few changes after its over and we come back home. We are not going back to the old order and certainly not the poverty as post First World War...
  11. Indeed. But one of the skills needed to be a PM or Minister in Government is to master the brief. Boris blusters. He wings it. Always has. His journalism, politics even as Mayor. All lies and bluster. If Brexit occurs at all there will be many further years of negotiating. I do not see Boris as being up to that task. He cannot master a brief. My manor is LibDem run and I will vote that way in the election. Boris is rubbish all hat and no cattle. Corbyn is a commie. Which leaves Jo Swinson CBE who has at least some experience and a decent degree. She will have to learn fast and she is not Thatcher ...Yet...But rather her than the other two. Not much choice but Oh well. Another Marvin clip perhaps?
  12. You sound like Marvin the Paranoid Android https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAA67a2-Klk
  13. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-50344110 Boris either lies or does not understand his own deal.. The link explains what it will mean for N Ireland which as near as dammit is staying in the EU for all intents and purposes. Seems his rambling speech with glass in hand has gone viral..
  14. Keir Starmer says Boris either does not understand his own deal or is lying. Or both..
  15. Smashing stuff about Boris in his Uni days in Private Eye I will have a go at paraphrasing it later...
  16. https://www.newsletter.co.uk/news/politics/listen-to-boris-johnson-contradicting-his-own-brexit-deal-in-rambling-speech-in-ni-last-night-1-9134882 Straight from the horse's mouth. Boris contradicts his own Brexit deal. Click the link to hear it in his own words... If it works.
  17. The point being that Boris says he can ride over and ignore or not comply with that which will be a treaty if it comes to pass..
  18. https://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1198682/nigel-farage-news-brexit-Party-latest-boris-johnson-deal-eu-barnier-general-election Farage doubts Boris has even read his own deal
  19. https://www.businessinsider.com/ Boris not understand his own deal Farage says he doubts Boris has even read it...
  20. Well everyone else thinks that he does not understand his own deal and contradicts himself saying that N Ireland is so lucky...Look at the other link I posted...He has handed this gaff on a plate to the other teams...The Business Insider is more succinct so click the link above...The Single market is good for N Ireland. They are lucky to have this privilege. But the rest of us No. Not for us lot. Bit Curate's egg eh what?
  21. Boris on other has just said that the EU is a jolly good thing ...For the Irish...Scotland is now saying...OK so we want the same...Nicola Sturgeon been fed some good material due to Boris putting his foot in mouth...
  22. I was told that at one stage they moved back to the Island and had houses in the Belmont hill area off Peel Road Douglas...I worked with someone who worked for a removals firm and helped to move them...They did not stay long apparently. Maybe it was a tax related residence...
