  1. I’m not religious myself but I have no problem with people believing whatever they want to believe. And I have no problem with religious people letting their beliefs dictate how they live (although they are often pretty selective with that). I don’t, however, see why their beliefs should dictate how I live - or how I die.
  2. Absolutely. And it strikes me that those in favour of introducing assisted dying are willing to listen to other voices and to accept there should be close scrutiny of the bill to ensure that all necessary safeguards are put in place. Those who are against it are simply against it - and any proposed amendments they are putting forward arent to improve the bill or to ensure the vulnerable are protected - their amendments are to try to scupper it all together.
  3. I’m not sure that’s been reported correctly- I’m not sure that there was a positive decision that Manx Care have to be involved. What was rejected was this proposed amendment from Kate L-B: The persons specified in subsection (5) must not be employed by or engaged to provide services to Manx Care or be otherwise engaged to provide services mentioned in the National Health Service Act 2001 at the time they exercise functions under this Act. No other person who is employed by or engaged to provide services to Manx Care or who is otherwise engaged to provide services mentioned in the National Health Service Act 2001 may provide administrative assistance or other support in relation to the performance of functions under this Act while they are so employed or engaged.
  4. So, today’s “experts”. One of them is a Dr David Randall. Presumably this guy: David Randall is a consultant nephrologist (kidney doctor) in London. He is chair of the Christian Medical Fellowship's Medical Study Group Is are his views and his expertise valuable as he is as a medical expert, or are his views on the subject informed by his Christianity? This isn’t just someone who occasionally goes to church- he heads up a group of Christian medics.
  5. No - definitely a problem with the site. They have always been same day or next day before.
  6. Agreed - I don’t think Gizo is slagging off the guild with his reference to the 70s, just pointing out the date on the calendar showing on the 2024 results page. i get that for the audience the results might not really matter, but those taking part generally like to see how they’ve placed. Only first and second have been announced. If you took part in a class with 30-odd entrants you might like to know how far behind the winners your score is.
  7. I’m not sure that does make sense. He very much appeared to be addressing Heading, whilst retweeting the Manx Radio story on Heading being jailed: “Noted all your recent posts @courtenaymanx - I will have my say on #Abbotswood debacle but biting my tongue until right moment. Please take care.” Implying Heading’s posts are worthy of noting - and they were numerous, repetitive and in line with what he’s just been jailed for - seems an unusual move.
  8. Glover’s original post is still showing under Dr Allinson’s post
  9. Because many of those civil servants who were paying for parking were working from home and not using the spaces. Also, I think most if not all carparks were free in covid- at least in the first few months: http://www.douglas.gov.im/index.php/news/council-news/item/2483-council-lifts-all-parking-charges-in-chester-street-car-park No idea why they weren’t simply reinstated when things started to get back to normal.
  10. Michelle Haywood has posted to say that there is no additional cost to the taxpayer and that the CPA picks up the tab for these trips (although we pay an annual contribution towards the CPA). That doesn’t really tally with what Rob is saying.
  11. You might not actually have been name calling, but suggesting someone has ‘spectacularly’ missed the point, is basically calling them a halfwit so I’d say it’s equally offensive.
  12. Talking of missing the point, I’m pretty sure the Teapot is agreeing with you
  13. I came here to post this - you beat me to it. They appear to have gone in a different direction with this one.
