  1. Firstly, thank you for allowing me an opinion on the Governance structure of my own country Monkey - a pity that some others here have a problem with that - hey ho. No - I do not think that no deal is a good thing. I do not even think that leaving the Common Market is a good thing either. But that's the whole point - we joined a Common Market that turned into 'ever closer union' - it was a massive deception, it has now been admitted as such, even the EU itself uses 'Federation' as its best descriptor. And when it comes to the Governance of my country, I choose democracy over deception. So, having been massively deceived - the people of the UK have expressed their democratic wish to leave. I will respect that just as I respected the original 1972 referendum decision the other way and would have respected a 'remain' decision in 2016 had that occurred. The 2016 decision has been enacted - the UK has left the EU federation of states. 'Ever closer union' now excludes both the UK and the IOM. Personally I would have chosen WTO back in 2016 (there is no such thing as 'no deal' for the simple reason that WTO is interwoven into EU law and would be all but impossible to remove). WTO with the opportunity to then negotiate a closer deal would have been my choice - but we are where we are. I am no longer an EU member, and no longer a proxy member for those IOM residents who want to dictate that I should remain a member for their benefit, pay the dues and taxes that they themselves have avoided for 47 years, and then be criticised when I've had enough of doing so. If Manxman1980 wishes to become an EU member then I have absolutely no problem with him doing so - it would be his absolute democratic choice to take that step. I have exercised my democratic choice to step in a different direction.
  2. It's a great thing for me. I cannot say whether or not it is a good thing for you or any other Manxman because you have not tried it and therefore have no database to call on. Perhaps if the IOM was to sign up to 47 years of EU membership, pay the fees, taxes, and other costs of membership whilst allowing the UK to have a free ride on the back of that I might have a different opinion. Give it a go, I'll let you know in 47 years time. My experience is 47 years membership - what is your experience of it? That is why I am calling on Manxman 1980 to form a party, advocate EU membership for IOM, pay all such taxes and costs are as entailed, let the UK have a free ride on the back of it, and then see how we feel having had that benefit - you must be up for that in all fairness surely?
  3. Rees-Mogg, Francois, and I have now decided to retire safe in the knowledge that Manxman, Pongo and Teapot have (somewhat unexpectedly) volunteered the IOM to pay our EU contributions for us. They get what they want, We get what we want, everybody happy bunnies. I love happy endings.
  4. I don't need a work permit. You don't understand the red wall mentality and never will. I was born in 'Red wall' territory, you were not.
  5. Excellent stuff. I look forward to you Party name, your manifesto, and your reasons for persuading IOM residents to abide by EU rules. I don't hate the IOM, I love it, it means that I soon will not be paying any EU taxes even if you do, crack on dear boy, crack on paying my EU taxes for me.
  6. Perhaps you might have had more success trying to persuade the taxpayers of your own country to pay for your desired EU membership rather than trying to get the taxpayers of the UK to do your dirty work for you. Introducing corporation tax and dropping work permits would be a little step in the required direction. Interesting to see how you get on.
  7. I think that the plan is for staff to travel to one of the 53 'hub' hospitals but then to have teams travelling out to Care homes to vaccinate the residents - I would't be keen on sending residents into hospital buildings at present.
  8. Can anybody recommend some bird identification books as being particularly suited to the Island please?
  9. It is most certainly happening though obviously it has yet to be tested on the ground. I received an email yesterday inviting all of our care staff for vaccination from 0800 tomorrow at a local hospital. 10 minute slots, available 08:00 - 20:00 daily, 15 minute follow up observation period. The hospital already advised as to who has been invited (we did not tell them, this has happened automatically) and will refuse tests to those not on the invitation list.
  10. They're support post for Rolex timepieces. Following cancellation of the TT there will be timed runs of the horse trams to maintain community adrenaline levels.
  11. The following little Ditty may assist - nothing serious and no criticism of any individual intended. Ashie to Ashes, Trust to Dust Media invited, Popcorn a must. In 3 inch high heels, She seals the deals Her bright star rises, Then bites the dust She gets off the floor, comes back for more It's Dogshit V Bullshit, Gonna be a fight But as we all know, Two pongs don't make a Wright This won't be over, till the fat lady sings Methinks he waits, out in the wings Muck spreading and Muck shredding, it's all the same Just a small part, of the political game.
  12. The EU's official website states that "The UK left the EU at midnight 31st January 2020". On the same site, the list of 27 current members does not include the UK.
  13. Back of a fag-packet figure - how much / how many people to run a small, dedicated service to cater for IOM basic needs for on/off Island connection to say Liverpool and London daily - no other add ons?
  14. Other than being a 'Frequent flyer' I admit to having virtually zero knowledge of your industry and hence I bow to your vastly superior knowledge - what you post makes sense to me. But I have to ask one question - How/why on earth did a small airline serving 80,000 people need to grow to be 'the second largest employer after IOMG???? Empire building? Was that its downfall?
  15. Agreed, and they should be vaccinated with home-grown vaccine from IOM. 😀
  16. I must admit that I thought that Derek leaving on Wednesday followed by a firework display in Ramsey on Thursday was just a coincidence - until I read this on the VisitBlackpool site; 'The 2020 Blackpool Illuminations will be switched off at midnight on Wednesday 4 November and the display suspended until further notice......." True! 😂
  17. I agree that in the specifics of getting the Lab up and running the employment status is mostly a 'nothing point' as you state - but in many other areas such as Professional Indemnity insurance, General litigation, Intellectual property rights etc. it is absolutely vital that the correct status is known and accepted by both sides from the off. It's such a basic and vital question that I am astonished that the two sides are seemingly at odds over this. Human medical negligence claims and Coroner's courts are a quantum leap from animal testing.
  18. That is not correct. Snail mail is very rarely used. All radiology images are now digital and can be sent world-wide almost instantly. Data protection is a big issue but provided that both the sending and receiving hospitals are registered on the same system ( either IEP Image Exchange Portal or N3Link) then it is simple and can be addressed to say a specific Professor in a tertiary centre such as Walton, Aintree etc. Where the system sometimes falls down is that the information continues to reside in an encrypted packet at the tertiary centre because the intended recipient is (for whatever reason) was not expecting the information and therefore it is never opened because only that one individual has the correct 'key'. A simple chest X-ray would be transmitted in seconds whilst a complex CT scan might contain up to 9,000 images and therefore take 30-40 minutes due to file size / network loading etc. Many UK hospitals export urgent images via tele radiology to Australia / NZ for overnight reading (and vice-versa) - massive quantity of data sent routinely every day of the year. It is done directly from clinician to clinician with IT involvement but no admin involvement. HTH
  19. After 24 hours contemplating your question I managed to come up with the following.... 1. The Manx economy in general and the taxation system in particular is far superior to the IOW. 2. Mostly free parking and those wonderful parking discs are a big advantage. 3. IOM is a much shorter transit time to the sailing waters of the West coast of Scotland. I came up with those three within 5 mins of reading your post, but after that I struggled to add to the list. Help me out before I get lynched please.
  20. As a former resident of the Isle of Wight (10 years) including living just outside one of the proposed circuit villages (Shorewell Pr. 'Shorrell') I thought I might offer a few observations on claims made; Tourist infrastructure / population. Whilst it is true that the year round permanent population is indeed only circa. 125,000, this swells to around 300,000 over the whole summer due to 2nd home owners and tourists - there is more than enough accommodation, pubs, restaurants, and nightlife to support this influx. Whereas IOM has 2 return ferry sailings in winter and 4 in summer - IOW has 78 daily returns! (Max Pax 892 per vessel). Total TT visitors and their bikes could be comfortably shipped in one morning. Attitude to risk / objections / Event organisation. Home to Cowes Week (much bigger organisation than TT) Cowes Torquay Powerboat Race, Round the Island yacht race (2,000 boats), Fabio Buzzi (172 MPH record holder in a boat) Schneider Trophy airplane races, Fastnet race - Just off the circuit itself is the UK's (then secret) Rocket launch site (Black arrow etc.) Home to many ex-RAF WW2 fighter pilots and Racing car drivers. Rock festivals (600,000 reported). Sir Max Aitken ( Flying Ace, Powerboat and sailing ace), Cockerill (Hovercraft inventor) etc. etc They are 'Can do' people by nature. Mist / Mizzle. Summer crops arrive 3 weeks earlier on the IOW than even nearby south coast (Hampshire) - Much warmer and less misty than IOM, in two years as a full-time Yachtmaster Instructor there I did 'Blind Pilotage' training /testing only once in real fog - the rest of the time we had to blank the windows out. Sunburn is a bigger problem by far. If they choose to do it, then they have the capability to do it (easily). I wish them luck.
  21. Better than I was expecting from you I have to admit.
  22. Agreed, but the Oxford situation is a glimmer of hope at least. (I think Pongo just wants to get my statue taken down).
  23. Hint; Perhaps that's why I included a little smiley at the end of my post
