  1. They've got to expand revenue to pay for a new town hall. Pretty soon they'll be badgering King Chaz for city status too. Times must be tough as I've not seen any hanging baskets out yet or is that only tarting it up for TT? Or did they blow it spending two weeks washing the pavements?
  2. Six of these were petrol/diesel hybrids. Wow, technology moves so fast. I knew we had petrol/electric hybrids and deisel/electric hybrids but petrol/deisel that's new? 🤪
  3. Presumably these are the same kids that freak at every fire drill too?
  4. West Quay has entire biospheres in some of the potholes and cracks. Let the innuendos begin...
  5. How very dare you! Don't you know the M word is verbotten in public services. You can't go cleaning gutters, throwing paint about and looking after stuff when there are sales reps to feed and new shiny catalogues to browse. And you certainly can't cut a ribbon every time somebody fixes something. Especailly not in a City. Nope, it's let it fall into disrepair and then build a new one. Preferably from the A-range or at least the B-range. Never even consider C-range or less. You've got a budget to maintain remember.
  6. I believe there are two ways to pay VAT for SME. One is to calculate VAT 20% on invoices in and VAT 20% on invoices out and pay the difference. Basically, you reclaim VAT on every single purchase against the VAT you collected from sales. The other is to pay a flat rate scheme by trade (like hairdressers 13%, catering 12.5%, retail food 4%) on sales only. Different trades have different rates which are all less than 20% but you can't reclaim VAT unless it's a large capital purchase . Either way you have to account for them, literally, in your cashflow.
  7. So Castletown temporary ramp discounted and now the turbine blades will go through central Douglas and Balasalla to the site via Castletown and Port Erin. Hopefully they'll do it overnight to minimise disruption. Surprised they can't just helipcoter crane them off a barge clsoer to the site. Just hope someone gets the measurement right and we don't end up with a sudden spate of dangerously diseased trees popping up along the route that conveniently also let these through. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/watch-giant-lorries-carry-150ft-11173544

    Scams

Be careful when dialling after a scam call as I believe they can 'hold' the line open. So make sure you hear a dial tone before entering the legit phone number or call someone you know to ensure the line is clear.
  9. As usual, no forethought as to how new regulations are going to be implemented by general public. So more charity money will now be spent on advocates and other professionals as you know, sure as eggs is eggs, they won't be volunteering their time for free. No doubt even more jobs coming for CS.
  10. A suspended sentence of 18 months or two months for every year of fraud. Presumably the amount owed will be attracting interest the same as if they had underpaid income taxes or VAT? Especially if it will be paid back at a rate of £55 a week. Or is it in effect an interest free loan at the taxpayers expense?
  11. I beleive recruitment and training are a UK wide problem. https://inews.co.uk/news/consumer/disruption-air-traffic-control-shortage-2896417 Then add in the necessary relocation to the island and all that it entails. NATS expects a huge chunk of its team – 25 to 35 per cent of controllers – to retire between the start of last year and the end of 2027. Pity they can't use the ever increasing passenger duty to increase pay to improve and staffing and retention levels.
  12. 88 keys but not one lock, no wonder they could nick it.
  13. This is what I imagined when I read the post title
  14. I was going to suggest setting up a Soylent Green factory once Dr Allinson gets his euthenasia bill through... but then I realised it'd be the same lot as the meat plant so would cost more than it saves.
  15. Looney's of Ramsey going soon.
  16. And what would be used when there was not enough local wind or solar power to meet demand? If it's nuclear and renewable from UK via an interconnector what is the point of £40m white elephant. Don't forget you also have to allow for depreciation and maintenance as well as a replacement cost, much like a car. So it'll be £60m-70m cost once the usual goverment inefficiences are taken into consideration.
  17. Meanwhile on the gateway to the Isle of Man we get more Lego buildings with red brick to make one of them look 'Victorian'. Don't see any sign of the bus shelter there either.
  18. Brought in an outside contractor on a price therefore cheaper to buy and fit meters in bulk. One advantage of the smart meters is they can be remotely turned off by the supplier. Dead handy when there isn't enough supply to meet demand so you can keep the essential and the great and the good on. This is the UK version (though its by area) https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/electricity-supply-emergency-code I'm sure the MUA must have something similar planned if everything goes to renewable.
  19. I suggest it now be rebranded the Newsance site on North Quay. If its so great as it is that it needs toi be preserved for the nation, why don't MNH take it on (after all it's literallty being given away) and stick the Peggy in it? Or the MDC, surely it'd be right up thier 15 min village street? The fact a developer is willing to walk away tells me that they understand the sunk costs fallacy and are willing to take the loss and walk away. If government did accept it, considering how long Summerland, Lord Street, the Horse Tram stables etc. have been festering it'd just become one more in a long list of forever projects.
  20. https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/chief-minister-says-government-have-been-reminding-people-to-buy-manx/ Thanks Alf I'd completly forgotten and needed reminding. Phew. Now if only there was a way to stop wasting said Manx produce when it gets to the meat processing plant? Oh I forgot, it's arms length. My bad. Nothing to do with the tax paying public. Unless you count a £2m subvention. Damn my poor memory.
  21. Is Mr Bean running the place?
