Down Niarbyl you can't get a Manx Telecom signal, but you can usually pickup UK/Irish networks.

Can you actually make or receive a call from there using those networks ?

Never tried tbh, just did the select network search having lost local contact and it came up with about seven other networks

off thread:

o2 (and I think Vodafone) are currently testing femtocell / microcell technology in the UK.

A femtocell is basically a small cellular base station (for the retail domestic market) about the size of a router which connects to the carrier network via broadband to create coverage over a few hundred metres. Typical use might be if you live in a dip but want to be able to use your phone.

Imagine if these caught on over here.

unlocking

Don't bother, look in the telephone directory under mobile phones theres a bloke down Crosby advertised for unlocking there, it gives his mobile used him 3 times it can unlock most phones.
