It makes the economy more diverse. Next time you moan about there not being enough police to catch all the dog poo leaving baddies, now you know why you should give a toss. Police have been cut in number in order to keep paying the civil service salaries and pensions. It's like a blackhole sucking in all money. It's the best part of a million quid if you count the £350k in cash found at the UK address as well. As you say maybe another DED tender that might well be questioned and / or embarrassing in the fullness of time. Are you suggesting he made millions of pounds through an involvement with the company running the homestay scheme? ha ha ha, genius.

No one's suggested anything of the sort. If you read the judgment it's alleged that the money was to product of VAT fraud and other similar schemes involving NI and so on. But there are also money laundering charges and certain types of businesses, such as travel agents, are sometimes used for that.
llap
Half a million in cash isn't a lot really. You could fit that in a small briefcase.

Quote from that link: Quote If we are dealing with £50 notes then we could fit about £250,000 in a slightly bigger brief case. so twice that would require a pretty large one.
