Quite frankly it doesn't matter what it's called, nothing or nobody can justify the taking of human life on religious grounds. I can think of a lot of names for the perpetrators of such acts. As for gay phobia, there are people who for some reason are revolted by gay people. Probably because of indoctrination more than anything else. Hopefully we are slowly coming out of that era! Similar to many other countries the major cities are actually pretty liberal but the rural communities are more easily led to hating the unknown.
