Fairy Houses, do they have any economic benefit for the island ?

The reality is we’ll never know.  Because tourists won’t come here just to see them. It probably will prompt some people to investigate the island as a possible holiday destination, whether these convert to actual visitors will depend on the rest of the tourist offering.

But they weren’t a great expense, generated a disproportionate amount of off Island publicity and will be enjoyed by locals and visitors for some time.

Agreed

£26k spent on an advert in a paper wouldn't generate the same buzz or have people talking about the IOM

So how did you measure the "buzz" and the number of folks "talking about the IOM" thanks to this latest fairy story...?

How sad...

It's just that when the Marketeers start believing their own bullshit the whole sales effort is in trouble.

Had a look at the one on Bradda Head.

What a shit location. I doubt any self-respecting fairy would set up home on a disused  grey concrete Coastguard Lookout Post.

The sort of people who are interested in fairies don't spend money. Same as the sort of people who are still interested in tourist railways.

What you want is people who are knackered after working all week in the City and want some fresh air and exercise. Whatever the weather. And some excellent food and accommodation of an evening. And a roaring fire. The whole thing organised just so. And without them ever having to go anywhere near Douglas. And another weekend they'll go somewhere else.

The blurb on the Art Collectives website whose artists formed these delights mentions the creation of a "fairy trail." As there's only four is there an intention to purchase more? If that's the case then give local artists an opportunity to utilise their talents.

After the week you describe it would be an easy decision to forget about an unpredictable boat journey, without even considering the cost.

A boat?

I'm certain that cost is no issue if it's done just so.
