If some cyclist gets killed to ensure he meets those KPIs set by introducing totally dangerous cycle paths then that’s entirely incidental. I’ve always thought that there is a simple compromise; paint a line in red delineating a hypothetical cycle lane but all vehicles can use that area of the road unless there is a cyclist using it. It becomes a guide for drivers showing how much distance they should leave to safely pass a cyclist but without permanently narrowing the road and gets rid of the awful green paint that can be treacherous for bike tyres when wet. Perhaps suggesting that they pave them with platinum or obsidian would swing it?

Is he rising at the crack of dawn to walk it?[1] It doesn't look like it, despite his claim to "cycle or walk to work". if you read the following sentence he's talking about a rather lesser journey. What seems to mean is that he walks from his car to his desk. As to walking between the Sea Terminal and Tynwald, given that most individuals without designated parking spaces wouldn't dream of driving that in any case[2], it hardly seems as if enormous physical effort is being invested. [1] Obviously he's not going to mix with the plebs on one of his Department's own buses. [2] I make it only about 0.4 rather than 'one' mile, which suggests that Harmer doesn't walk it that often Does anyone else have a problem with the cyclists going slow from south into douglas in the mornings ?, i always seem to get stuck behind a queue of traffic always out of Ballasalla, and again around the blackboards, and then again down the Richmond Hill. If cycling to work, was / is to become the norm, why has a certain company based near B&Q who is selling a huge amount of cars, but not selling any bicycles ? They’ve just got the Audi franchise up and running. They’ll sell you one of these, at a price. Be quick. It’s a limited numbers product.
