Huge gas explosion in Jersey now with several dead. Presumably linked to an Island Energy supply.

Silly silly silly man. How can you speculate about something like that. Cheap point scoring. FYI the gas supplier is not responsible for the gas inside a property.

I think it’s after the meter, wherever that is. Most European countries make it compulsory to have the domestic pipe installations, from the meter to appliances, checked and certified every 10 years. Without a current certificate gas won’t be supplied.

Yes. That's correct. From the meter onwards is the responsibility of the owner, not the gas company. Meters are usually outside therefore the chance of an explosion caused by a leak of the suppliers pipes is unlikely. It's possible of course as gas can run into cellars etc. However most gas disasters are caused by faults with the pipes in the property. Usually after damage or poor modifications or installations.

I was astonished that @C Montgomery Burnscould use the deaths of people to somehow have a shot at the energy supplier and insinuate that they might be to blame

It’s fairly typical Mail. No real investigation, light on fact, ignores the fact that, whilst the investigation is ongoing, the working theory appears to be a bottled gas explosion.

Agree, nevertheless it doesn't do any harm if govt and companies here double check their own responses and procedures more regularly...learning from any 'mistakes'.

It often takes such tragedies to improve safety, such as in the gas and aircraft industries.
