The issue with sickness absence in civil service as a whole is that it’s roughly double private sector, why because majority get 6 months full pay & another 6 months half pay so no incentive to return. Monitoring and disciplinary action against constant abuse is minimal in public sector, in private sector you would undoubtedly be managed out. This excludes genuine long term sickness for cancer, major operations etc. too many I’ve injured my back, leg , hand so unable to work but ok to go on holidays etc
  2. There’s always more than that plus the containers from Royal Mail with all the parcels & post
  3. Why don’t you ask Manx care or your MHK
  4. Government accountants don’t have anything to do with steam packet, maximizing profits is a normal business aim. If shareholders want to change business strategy they would say so at scheduled meetings and board can either agree or disagree, shareholders could then of course change the board, but take the risks of making losses
  5. Why ? Jersey has as much issues as us and recently replaced their CM
  6. FFS stop calling it the boatyard constantly it’s not that’s in peel!!!

  12. If vat is cut for hospitality then everyone else would want it. The successful businesses will prosper as they always have done, there’s far too many cafes/coffee shops everywhere.

  14. He’s always on Facebook giving his advice to government and everyone else about what should be done about absolutely everything!!!
  15. The new regulations are to comply with AML , KYC standards etc. I’m involved with a few and it is more work as annual accounts, UTD information required. However there were many 000s of obselete charities registered, may more being set up for one off collections etc, fraudulent ones etc. Most well run charities don’t have a problem.
  16. It’s the unions who won’t agree to any change in T&Cs to allow more streamlining of process, because they know it could lead to their members getting the chop!. Same unions demanding inflation busting rises plus 2% in case any of their members may have to pay more tax! These unions are not representing nursing/medical staff, police or teachers just the vast majority of other civil servants like the legions in cabinet office, DFE ETC.
  17. I’ve seen several large vans with loads of obviously work rubbish from house renovations being unloaded by people who are not the house owner at Douglas site not being questioned by staff who they obviously know!!
  18. Where did you get that information from?
  19. What did the school say when you discussed the incident with them?

  22. I assume she can afford to pay and doesn’t qualify for exemption by being on benefits so any reason she shouldn’t pay?
  23. Some common sense from planning, this will greatly improve that derelict area, although anyone buying duke street flats won’t have much of a view https://www.iomtoday.co.im/news/villiers-square-scheme-unanimously-approved-681911?utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook&fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR2NUNCYxMxgkqras9x2-zs28_buLb4D-NGZsNvUQQMh8XEH3BKVUWus-rA_aem_ATqbDcRBd5aJ8MXCj7ay0XQtSOjgBfZwfghC6LEqK0G7XvoKRr-QVfb22i9SUrZtdPswGWrsVadNgOAvPOyiyYvr#Echobox=1713788674

    Smart Meters

We should have water meters so everyone pays for what they actually use, imagine the outcry if they said electricity bills would be apportioned according to rateable value of house no matter how much or little you use.
