Often in these cases you'll find that the derogatory named races don't find it offensive at all. It's the hand wringing, woke, white saviours that decide that they should be offended. There was something very similar recently with the American Football Team - Washington Redskins - they changed their name as it was deemed offensive to the Indians. The Indians however weren't offended at all and now one of their associations is lobbying for them to change their name back! Cape Town history has a Khoi (Hottentott) Tribesman who was called Harry the Strandloper (literally the Beach Runner and he probably wasn't really called Harry) was one of the first natives to interact and learn the English and Dutch languages when the settlers first arrived. He accordingly became very important to both races and he became a tribal chief and very rich. However a few years later the Dutch got a bit boisterous and kicked out the British. The Khoi fought the Dutch and lost, they then imprisoned him on Robben Island (of Mandela fame). He escaped, but then died of smallpox a few years later. newaccount
Would the world be a better place if Britain had retained its Empire? Well, the British Museum wouldn't be full of stuff that's been robbed from other countries 😀

Anyone
So if anyone stole the stuff stolen by the British Museum would that be theft. After all much of the stuff in the Hermitage was stolen by the Russians from the Nazis who had stolen it from the French (primarily but probably also Dutch and the Sprouts ). The spoils of war and all that.
