Roger Ram Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 (edited) The island is viably quite busy with visitors on bikes. It will be quite the embarrassment to the island and Manx Care if this evenings session isn’t able to resume due to “capacity issues” at Nobles Hospital when the roads are closed, the sun is out and loads of visitors are hoping to see the action they have come to the island for. If two admissions means the session is cancelled (which it is) then surely it should have never been scheduled to run anyway if you think back to last year. An embarrassment and if I had paid thousands to come here I would be fuming 1 Quote

Manx Mole Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 It begs the question about how well prepared Nobles is to deal with a mass casualty event should one (god forbid) happen. 3 Quote
Two-lane Posted July 8, 2024 Posted July 8, 2024 Resilience is a word that seems to have been used a lot recently by politicians. A two-car accident may involve at least people. There does not seem to be much safety margin. Quote

Why should the main Hospital structure around a minor hobby event- capacity for the public is more important ? 5 Quote

There will be a specific plan for that type of situation which will involve scrambling all off-duty staff, bringing people from general practice into the hospital, maybe bringing retired people in to assist and so on. No comparison to what has happened this evening. 2 Quote

An embarrassment and if I had paid thousands to come here I would be fuming If these two riders both need urgent specialist attention, for example both have fractures which absorbs all available emergency orthopaedic capacity, you can see why the hospital won't want to risk any more similar casualties. They might also have already been stretched by other issues not connected to the racing. We don't know the full picture. Nobles has more capacity built in for TT and MGP. It raises serious questions about future motorsports events where the likelihood of more than two competitors needing hospital care at the same time is high. One could also infer that the S100 isn’t considered important enough to contemplate activating such a contingency plan for, even though the extent of the incident would be a lot smaller than other things that could possibly happen here. As prepared as we can be. There is a system, and it gets rehearsed regularly. But in practice, if a plane were to crash into Douglas Prom with hundreds of casualties we wouldn’t cope, same as every other hospital. To quote Mike Tyson - Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth. I’m amazed S100 wasn’t cancelled after last year’s carnage. 3 Quote
