  1. The Steam Packet is one of the companies on this list: https://www.three.fm/news/isle-of-man-news/govt-owned-companies-could-be-questioned-by-public-in-future/

    After reading Kipper99's insightful post, I experienced the onset of a conspiracy theory. Then I recalled the quote: "Don’t ascribe to malice what can be plainly explained by incompetence".

    The only justification for not reporting what happened in court on Friday is that the Deemester imposed reporting restrictions. But, as far as I can understand things, the imposition of reporting restrictions involves making a public announcement about which trial, where and when. In which case I would expect the newspapers to report that. Journalists being nice and fair and doing what is best for society doesn't come into it. What would be the situation if this case, involving senior Government people, happened in England - or even, USA? I am not a serious conspiracy theorist in this case. I am simply curious to know what was said in court. [Note also that in this case, the restriction would have to be retrospective. A journalist could have taken note of Scales' earlier responses, but left court before the critical moment in the trial. Then what?] {Unless Scales took the stand, immediately said "You're fired", and it took until 15:00 for the Deemster to formally conclude that progress was impossible}

    I was not criticising the Deemster's decision. Scales was on the stand for some period of time. The questions he was asked and the responses he made are not reported. In a case of this significance I would expect there to be a news report. (And, generally speaking, I have no idea what day of the week it is)

    The aspect I am annoyed about is the lack of reporting. According to the press reports, Scales took the stand in the morning of Thursday and the Deemster shut the case down at 15:00. Presumably the Deemster did that when he became aware that Scales had dismissed his advocate. There is no reporting about what happened in the meantime. This case is not a trivial one about a speeding offence - but, no data. (Manx Radio has a total black-out on the subject. Gef the flying mongoose has had no news since Paul Moulton departed)
  7. I am banned from Facebook, and anyway I have no patience to read a lengthy diatribe. So, let's get to the basics - which establishment was it (I hope it is not The Shed, because I do like their ham, cheese, and pesto panini).
  8. I did not realise that the DoI had any premises there.
  9. There does not appear to be anything specialist about this: http://cclark.uk/sarc/2201069B APL P03 Proposed Floor Plan GA-1.pdf
  10. Either the ID or the location is required to easily find the application. I cannot find the location in any news item. The other possibility is to go through the entire planning application list...
  11. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cndn7x7gyz7o Is this the same place? The news item is dated 20 February 2024. "Construction of the Sarc is expected to cost about £830,000."

    " Jason Scales took the stand on Friday morning " "Deemster Graeme Cook told the jury just after 3pm"
  13. "New Pier Head operator GPH have informed the company that a previously agreed usage of the landing stage on those days will prevent Manannan from using the berth." That raises some questions.
  14. When the Strand Centre was opened, people came from far away (Bride) to ride on the escalator. This is life on the IoM.
  15. Absolutely. You went through any number of cans of Heineken and Grolsch and Budweiser before you arrived at the correct colour combination. Dedication. Those railings....
  16. The Teapot - living on the edge, but always with a can of BrewDog Lost to hand. Such a thrill. Don't get that in Ramsey.
  17. What are the requirements for a Sexual Assault Referral Centre? An Internet search did not provide anything definitive. The word "Referral" implies that the real business happens elsewhere. Is this merely an office with a telephone, manned by someone who has been trained to handle this kind of event?
  18. I believe (but I could be wrong) that there are programs you can run on a website to check for broken links. Well, actually I am not wrong. I run a cron job links check on a website once every 24 hours. I suppose one cannot expect too much from a government computer department (that's today's sarcasm quota out of the way).
  19. This is a photo taken while I was waiting. Ground level visibility was always unlimited. The fog was a coming and going some way up. Maybe the comments about the airport landings systems will be resurrected.
  20. The LoganAir Manchester to IoM made three attempts at landing and then went off to Liverpool. The Heathrow to IoM at around the same time also failed.

    "Cross-examining, defence advocate Laurence Vaughan-Williams said there was no dispute that the ‘Greenhow guarantee’ document was not genuine. But he added: ‘What the defence is unable to establish is the provenance of that particular document.’"
