As Roger put it a bit further up, trade shows are important and can mean new business. It’s nice to be able to pull someone from IOMG into a conversation and often makes a great impression. Of course the person needs to reasonably know what they are talking about, but the detailed stuff is left to the private sector anyway. Take ICE in London for example. Great to have Digital and the GSC there plus political members. You gotta spend money to make money.

Some of the shit on Facebook goes too far and I personally stay away from it now. We’re kinda in the same boat, even if mine is slightly smaller. You can’t win on there. What you can do is be better in communicating. Maybe not yourself as you at least have journalistic understanding. But posts like hers about the trip are a prime example. I’m all for supporting IOMG to go to places and know these things aren’t really jollies. Be better in telling people the benefits.

Stu it’s more about the way some MHKs don’t seem to understand that everything they do is paid for by taxpayers. Instead of saying it isn’t, she should have pointed out the tangible benefits of it. As for egaming, no need for Vegas. IoM is represented in Manila next week (and we’re the only small island that matters in this regard). Just hope the guys aren’t as jet lagged as last time

Well there’s no contract that says you must work 45 hours a week for MHKs is there? And of course it’s taxpayer funded. Their whole existence is. But it’s still irrelevant in the great scheme of things.

This. I don’t care about penny amounts for postage Rob. I do care about a budget and other things that make it hard to attract business here. I do care about rising costs. I do care about an ever growing government. I do care about red tape and a lethargic public sector. I do cate about a failing healthcare system. I don’t care about your postage.

It’s basically a work trip for them even if it’s going to likely be of no real world value. Honestly not too bothered if they easyJet it down to Malta for a few days. Stuff like this won’t break the bank. Many other things they aren’t doing will.

Just being honest on how I (and I suspect others) perceive some of your recent posts. I have ZERO plans to run as MHK again. Or Councillor for that matter. Maybe I do a stint as Mayor when I retire in a few years, but that's about it.

Nobody cares about local politics apart from when the rates go up and the bins aren’t emptied. We need LGR and get rid of local government but the issues is that IOMG likely won’t do any better or more efficient job.
