IOMG should have started to look at park and shuttle solutions years ago, especially as they’re apparently trying to grow the event. Car park was at capacity all the time already. Meetings with them are always fun when they go huff and puff until you point out they should have done certain things years ago. Looking at a certain minister here. I love the TT but man, sometimes you wonder how the event lasted this long.

The St Ninian's gate did indeed not have planning permission, despite the department having been told they need to obtain it well in advance (I was in the meeting where they were told, in the council chamber). Access will be widened past talk of the town. As much as you are obviously wishing for a bad news story, no gardens or play areas will be destroyed. The widening is something like half a meter and that's enough. Of course you also know that there was an application to put a gate in at the bottom between St Ninian's and the ToTT entrance, but planning turned it down. Plus, in future cars won't be allowed to park in the field anymore anyway, except those who have business in Nobles during TT (workers, etc) and disabled parking. Motorbikes will still be allowed. I'm sure you will support this, seeing as you're so much in favour of protecting rate born facilities and that the fields are damaged every year by cars driving around and parking there.

You’re talking about agile which is a valid and good way to manage projects, create software, etc. The problem is that very few people do it right and so the daily standup turns into torture. Agile done right works but you need competent people running it the right way. Most companies say they are agile when they are half arsed. Sprints aren’t for the whole project but for bits of it to give you flexibility to change as compared to waterfall where you just get what you ordered even when it turns out halfway through the build that the final result will be shit.

And that’s the issue I’m having with this job and a few others before it. Like that early esports strategy and role. Hardly ever anything tangible. No clear OKRs/KPIs for the actual position, etc. In the private sector there are clear commercial expectations or your stay in a job is going to be rather short. In IOMG you can seemingly have a career based on buzzwords. All while we are massively lacking in many basic things needed to make any of these grand ideas work. The over-all KPIs they do have (I think number of jobs created? There was something in the digital conference) need to be communicated better and tied closer to jobs like that AI one. Create some firm deliverables especially in a field where it’s so easy to bullshit as AI and strategy.

Well yes that risk is there and it’s not like this hasn’t happened before. That’s why I keep asking for firm quantifiable benefits. The digital conference was a buzzword bullshitfest. I can see AI potential and how to make money with it but I want to hear it from them. They also need to do more to make it easier to run a company on the island and bring people there. Well I’ve done more than I would have to just to earn money. Promoting the island abroad at every opportunity because I genuinely like the place. Seeing what a shower we have in Tynwald now makes me question that approach though. Too many business prevention officers in IOMG.
