  1. https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/medical-director-being-paid-by-manx-care-while-working-in-liverpool/ So why do we have an interim medical director and a medical director at the same time ? Both seem to be getting paid !!!
  2. Never been able to get a slot for those.. End up going to the shop 😞
  3. I still cannot understand why Manxcare needs two people for the same job. Can't the person who is in post here cover what Dr Andhol is doing for manxcare at the moment ?
  4. Also the clubcard plus @£7.99 a month gives a 10% discount upto £20 on upto two shops a month. So if someone spend over £80 a month in Tesco it's worth it .. Just need to plan ahead and consolidate the shopping into two large ones of around £200 each for maximum benefit. I know large families who end up spending much more than this and so have two clubcard plus subscriptions.. so that's 4 × £200 shops covered and a £80 saving for a £15.98 cost Clubcard Plus doesn't have a minimum term and you can stop whenever you want (I freeze my payments when I'm away from the island for longer periods )

Can see tables for dine in on the photos on their Facebook page .. I don't know if they are doing dine in right now. Look for vellikas kitchen and not the Vellikas in ramsey ..
  6. Also factor in the mortgage tax relief.. It's only 10% but with current interest rates it will cover a fair bit of the rates It's 5k per person so 10k joint and so maximum of around £1k savings.. I have also noticed that rates (borough + water / sewerage) is less than what my family pay across for council tax + water + sewerage..
  7. Is this after some external review ?
  8. They are all nice until you have to claim..:-(
  9. Isn't KFC and McDonalds sold at higher rates in the IOM anyway. I don't think many people complain about this Our 'poundshop' has been £1.20 😉 While I hope we do not end up with a 20% mark up , a 10% or so premium for transport is inevitable from what I can see
  10. What happened to the Director of Doctors. Is he still working across ( assume he is still paid by Manxcare ? )
  11. Also if you have a large family then you have have 2 or even 3 clubcard plus accounts for £7.99 per account per month . Keep each shop under £200 to get the full advantage of 10% off upto £20 per shops twice a month per account .. There is no long term commitment either.. I sometimes stop mine in between after stocking up on food and drink 🙂 . Freeze / lock the payment card used for the subscription and they cannot bill you .. You lose the clubcard plus perks till you pay again . I do this 2 or 3 times a year when I'm on work / leisure travel and off island..
  12. Rates ...Must be averaging around £100 per month ( borough + water and sewerge) Small semi / terraced houses would average around this in douglas/ onchan. Except for one couple none of the others have a car .. They have the bus pass. So I suppose that's reduced costs. Regarding broadband I'm fairly certain all of them have fibre. The £400 per month averaged over the year includes rates / broadband / electric. None of them have sky as far as I know.. Yes there will be additional costs for maintainence of the house etc ( probably 2 to 3 grand per year ) averaged over a period of time..I have not included this in the £400 above.
  13. What taxes? No taxes on the first £29k for a couple . I know many retired couples whose electric / phone / broadband/ rates / home insurance etc are well under £400 a month nett ( electric obviously averaged over the year ) They don't have sky TV though and are on UK mobile contracts ( under a tenner a month ) Obviously depends on the size of the property and if you have a car . That may add a few 100 more to the monthly spend.
  14. Since a couple have a joint tax free allowance of 29k there are many who have retired to the island. Provided they own their own house £2.4k a month is a very decent retirement income. Or they can have upto 42k income for around £1300 in tax. That's a 3% tax rate on the £42k
  15. I've heard of reduction in the tax free allowance for high earners.. Right now you can do a joint return and earn upto £200k and keep the personal allowance . Going to be reduced to £100k as per rumours . Will probably affect recruitment for doctors etc as this used to be an incentive for those moving to the island.

Yes.. One issue is that i sometimes end up needing Rennie afterwards as some of the dishes can be super hot but it's worth the pain. On my first visit to one ordered Laziji / Chongqing chicken . Now this comes with a whole load of whole fried sichuan peppers along with the chicken .. I didn't know that you were not supposed to eat the whole peppers. .. I ate them all and nearly ended up in hospital 😞 It's still one of my favourite dishes 🙂

Will be interesting if it's the Sichuan style . The name seems to suggest so ..
  18. Did they kyc with an IOM address ?
  19. Yes...its bonkers in the UK as someone who gets a 1k pay rise from 100k to 101k will end up with a 60% overall tax on that 1k.. .. So that 1 k pay rise translated into only £400 nett.. This is an example from the UK .. impact in the IOM will be less than this. I earn £100,000 and get a £1,000 pay rise The extra £1,000 is taxed at my normal 40% Higher Rate But for every £2 I earn over £100,000, I also lose £1 of my tax-free Personal Allowance At this 2:1 rate, I lose £500 of my Personal Allowance This now also needs to be taxed at my 40% Higher Rate 40% of £500 is an extra £200 tax I am now taxed £600 (£400 + £200) on the extra £1,000 I earn £600 is 60% of the extra £1000 I earn
  20. They seem to be okay with transfers to and from coinbase. I suppose they cannot do much as coinbase gives you your own sort code and account number and the coinbase bank account is in your own name
  21. They wouldn't let me open an account with an IOM address They used to be crypto friendly but then became anti crypto.. So I'm not missing much Set up a coinbase account and they are quite happy with IOM and even have my currency as IMP ( isle of man pounds) .Transfers in and out happens in seconds.. Starling and chase ( if you canopen one ) are among the best for forex rates if travelling overseas But both of them do not allow IOM residents as far as I know. Same issue with curve..They shut me down due to my IOM address.
  22. Heard of loss of personal allowance over 100k if on a joint tax return with partner . So far I think the threshold was 100k for a single person and 200k if joint ..
  23. Rumours of losing personal allowance at over 100k even if joint taxation .. Right now the threshold is 200k if its joint taxation.
  24. M&S has better fruit and veg than Tesco. You may pay a bit more but they seem to last longer . Wonder if they have some different method of storage/ transport.
  25. 12% for Douglas https://www.manxradio.com/news/isle-of-man-news/douglas-council-increases-rates-by-12/
