  1. Always wonder why hybrids are often considered to be fine by those who hate EV's .. is it because that it still has a ICE engine ? After all hybrids still have a traction battery which stores power in and an electric motor just like all EV's .( with all the fire risks etc that people worry about ) Remember the headline article of a Norwegian ferry company banning EV's on board .. The actual article said that even hybrids were banned which was conveniently ignored by most people.. The prius is a very reliable car but Toyota decided to stop selling in the UK due to lack of demand . The new Prius looks much nicer than the old version.. I think it may still be possible to get it from the Irish Market as they are planning to continue selling it there.. I have both an EV and an ICE car . I am realistic about what an EV can do . Its not a practical car for everyone especially if you have to drive long distances . The technology is still very early for mass adoption and there are many drawbacks That's why I've kept my ICE car . But for on island use its brilliant.. I think the current VED rate for an EV is still very low..I believe the UK plans to make it £165 or so in the next few years and I don't have any doubt that IOM will follow. Taxing on basis of weight could be an option.
  2. Off topic but went to Tesco yesterday ( it's been a while since I've gone there) When coming down Bank hill ( going downhill past the steam railway station) and waiting to turn right to tesco , the building opposite ( ? Railway Pub ) seems to have put up a fence blocking visibility of the cars coming towards you over the bridge Saw someone in front of me nearly have an accident as they didn't see the car coming from the left ( cars coming have priority ) Both cars were small ( I think a i10 and a swift ) .. I suppose those who are tall or in an SUV might be okay ..
  3. Hsbc isle of man sent me an email a few months ago.. They have capped the limit for funds being sent to exchanges ( on ramping) to £10k in a 30 day rolling period. As per the email they don't have limits from exchanges to your bank account ( off ramping ).. which is good..

Where do you get them from ? I know that the Robinsons at Cooil Road stocks the Ross bakery ones but they were a bit soggy Maybe it's better if I get them as soon as they make it ..

Not a fan of those. Don't mind a hint of sweetness though.

I'm not very familiar with stouts and ales but this looks interesting... Hope its just a note of fudge and not actually sweet As a noob to the way these are manufactured, how do they add the flavours to this?
  7. Have Robinsons also started a restaurant .. Isn't it Rileys who have the restaurant/ coffee shop ? They have done a nice job recently with the refurbishment of that area.
  8. Not sure of easyjet but with loganair they always try to do the LHR rotation as a load of passengers on it are from codeshare partners. I've noticed that they even poach aircraft meant to operate other sectors ( MAN for example ) if there are issues with the aircraft due to operate to LHR
  9. While I haven't checked it myself , friend of mine said that he was looking at a easyjet holiday package to London from the IOM Seemed to be way cheaper than booking flights/ hotel separately. Reduces the risk of having to sort out non refundable hotel reservations if flights outwards are cancelled if its all packaged up via easyjet Holidays..
  10. Assume that usually were in a state of suspended animation and woke up today to revive a 9 year old thread ?
  11. Yes.. many have sold / are in the process of selling in the area . Traffic is going to be a major issue if the estate comes through..
  12. Isn't there another housing estate planned in the area .. I suppose that with all the new houses there will be more traffic ? Shouldn't the developers pay for part of the costs ?

M&S weigh at checkout . And the scales ar tesco where you weigh produce are often broken and checkout staff can weigh it for you For scan as you shop you still have to weigh yourself for obvious reasons..

Can do it at the checkout as well at tesco . Took me a few years to realise that checkout staff can also weigh loose produce 😀

I only go to shoprite for the meat section and that too if my local butcher is closed for the day . They do some frozen food which the other stores don't have.

Was very good when they started but went downhill quickly.. Stopped going after they changed the Turkish bread ( used to be freshly made ) to something frozen and heated up..
  17. Hasn't it been like this for ages .. HSBC for instance used to ask expats to set up an expat account ( I think its based in Jersey) and shut down UK accounts Obviously many keep it open by using a UK address..( family / friends) Barclays IOM used to do similar for expats who wouldn't qualify for a UK account.
  18. I think its £215 now...Agree with you ...Pays for itself if you do a few trips..
  19. I suppose that's the only way...I wouldnt mind as my EV is fairly light and running costs are like 2p a mile.
  20. I've seen a third party service that can support an esim even on a non esim enabled phone https://esim.me/ I'm not sure if it will work in the IOM though.. I've seen that it has mixed reviews as well.. Has anyone tried it here.? My phone doesn't support an esim so I'm looking for an alternative..
  21. Many people generate their own electricity using solar?..How are you planning to tax that ? And if the plan is to add additional tax based on smart meters connected to the car charging points it won't work All electric cars can be changed from a 3 pin plug if needed.. I have an EV and and ICE car. Curreht EV tech is still a work in progress and doesn't work for everyone. I don't take it across for example.. But for island use its perfect .
  22. Are you aware that the electric heating tariff is cheaper than an EV tariff? Also VAT is added whenever you charge at a podpoint ( I.e you pay more for the electricity than when you charge at home )
  23. I took this photo some time late last year but found the lounge closed at the scheduled opening times on several occasions due to staffing issues. However staffing seems to be better these days so I think that the opening times are different now . Was open at around 10 AM last Wednesday for example .. Will be travelling later on this week. Will check with the staff / post photo here. While there is no hot food here in the IOM many business visitors loved the lounge and the choices . View of the runway and self serve alcohol etc might have helped 😉
  24. What do you do in winter . Do you have to transfer the fish indoors ? Always wondered what happens to the fish ? I suppose our winters are not too bad compared to some parts of the UK but we still get snow at times .
