  1. Even the butchers do this don't they ? I've always been told to avoid the marinated things when buying meat from the butcher.
  2. Isn't that how the M&S and Tesco in store bakery works The bakery "fresh bread " arrives frozen .

    Money

I remember reading somewhere that there is a reason why we are encouraged to use manx notes. When manx notes are printed in the UK, the IOM has to deposit the equivalent amount of funds with the UK. The funds get interest while the local notes circulate over here in the local economy I don't know what the actual process is but this was the simple version from someone clever . 🙂
  4. Did anyone get post today .. I've been waiting for a letter posted from the UK on Saturday. 😞 Does it all come on the boat these days which could explain the delay ?

If you are isle of man resident then its cheaper to get the Manx national heritage membership for £40 per year https://www.friendsofmnh.org/join/ Additional adult at same address is £30 per year It has a reciprocal arrangement with national trust etc and even some overseas schemes..
  7. Wonder if the ? 100 cover restaurant will still go ahead . Was supposed to be a cafe during the day and a restaurant for the evening . They had someone interested to run it as well but not sure if they will be interested without parking etc..
  8. While they can possibly put a tax in thise with an Ev tariff you can charge most EV's with a standard 3 pin socket . So will be impossible to target EV users. I don't think its fair on ICE road users if they end up having to share the cost of this..
  9. Another issue will be that Ev's will then have 0 tax .. one of my cars is an EV and I feel its not fair on other road users All motor vehicles on the road should pay their fair share The UK is bumping up minimum VED to £180 for all cars ( EV or ICE ) from 2025 . I think we will have similar here soon I am sure that the current lowest band will have at least a 50% increase soon to close to or above £100 .
  10. Yes...even for EV's as far as I know
  11. The UK is planning to make the mimimum rate much higher.. I think £180 or so irrespective of emissions I'm sure that the IOM will do the same
  12. Some of the pubs are older. For example the Marine in Peel ..Had lunch yesterday but I think its up for sale..:-(
  13. Afaik there are / were plans for a restaurant as well. Cafe during day / restaurant at night.
  14. Found out today that you can check the in store stock at the main Tesco in Douglas using the Tesco app.. Must have sneaked this in one of the recent app updates. I dont remember seeing this before.
  15. You are correct .. looks like they have changed the rules after covid
  16. For UK tax residency its the nights in the UK which is one of the factors which is considered Which is why many island residents who have business meetings etc in London like to get back to the IOM on the same day. Edited: looks like rules have changed now and even days are included . So my post is incorrect
  17. Or retire and keep doing the same job on a fixed term contract or on hourly rates.
  18. Not really a choice in some cases. There is peer pressure to donate.

  22. Manchester was not allowing it till recently but I've been told that it's back again .. But I have not used it . So no personal experience at Manchester with interlining bags on emirates . Most of my onwards travel is through Heathrow these days .. With Heathrow from IOM , I've checked my bags all through to dubai and to Asia and back twice in the last 3 months. Check in staff in IOM didn't have any issues with tagging my bags to dubai / Asia via Heathrow. on the way back In dubai you are dealing with EK staff who know what they are doing.. so I've never had an issue with interlining to IOM . At outstations its usually people who don't know and are often contracted staff who check in for multiple airlines.. Often you get a junior agent who will try to get you to pick up bags at Heathrow ( easy for them) ..tagging to IOM is more work I always ask for a senior agent and explain that I've done this for a very long time .. Carrying a print out of the e ticket helps instead of trying to show it on the phone.
  23. You are correct Manchester stopped interline baggage after covid but I think its back again . Definitely possible via Heathrow.. I've had this done twice both on and off the island on Emirates in the last few months . I think the issue is that at outstations it depends on the check in agent.. Some are under the assumption that bags have to be collected at the first entry point to the UK . This can be a pain as if you end up landside while in transit with checked in bags , you have to wait till the loganair desks open before you can give the bags / clear security and enter T2 At Gatwick they had a brilliant system called Gatwick connect which was very useful . This was a free service. Even for non code share flights ( for example arriving on EK and connecting to Easyjet ) , you collect bags as usual on arrival from dubai and approach the Gatwick connect desks at the baggage hall . You give details of the easyjet flight. The staff walk with you past customs green channel and take your bags off you with easyjet tags applied You are now free with hand luggage only and can clear security and enter airside instead of having to wait for 2.5 hours before your easyjet flight. Even if you didn't immediately want to go airside you are more free to do something else.. I've even gone into central London a few times as I was only having a rucksack . Unfortunately covid killed the Gatwick connect service 😞
  24. You were very lucky . Having lost bags in the past I always make sure that my bags are tagged properly . If you book directly on emirates or BA you usually get an email from loganair where you can check in on the loganair part / select seats etc and get a boarding pass . I take a screenshot and keep it on my phone. At the origin airport get your bags tagged to IOM , land at LHR , stay airside and use the airside bus to get to T2 Clear transit security at T2 and then move to terminal entry security..They capture your photo and scan your boarding pass ( I use the one on my phone )..Then pass through the UK border control and you are in T2 airside. Sometimes I never get a check in email from loganair for a codeshare flight with EK . So I have to call up loganair and get a loganair reference number and then login to loganair with that and surname when it's time to check in . One potential issue when travelling off island with a codeshare flight on EK is that EK will not allow you to check in online ( and select a seat for free ) if the first flight is on another airline..So unless I'm willing to pay for a seat ( if on a saver ticket) I'll have to get a random allocation. On a flex ticket I can select a seat in advance anyway.
