  1. I was speaking to a construction worker at the weekend who has completely cashed in due to the pandemic. They are turning away work and have some fairly substantial contracts in place due to people hiring locals. It’s likely only a limited market but at least some are thriving in the current climate.
  2. It’s a great point as we will be losing sight of how many people are infected coming to the island (and that should form part of the border phasing) it would be a tough ask for people to volunteer though given how intrusive the tests are if the sample people are not symptomatic. There is also the risk of someone testing positive on day 13 where they will then have to self isolate from that point for another 2 weeks. If testing isn’t mandatory or because someone is symptomatic, I think they will have less people coming forward.
  3. All the “Guests” at the prison for COVID related violations are self isolated and on a separate wing to the general population. They wouldn’t need to lock the full prison down.
  4. “police called at her home she was said to have pulled away from officers and swore.” May have something to do with it. Although given the responsibilities placed on people returning from the UK, it wouldn’t have been the smartest move to go into a shop no matter the circumstances.
  5. This why would they even entertain the idea of opening up the borders until there is a large scale vaccine available. There is a lot of anecdotal chat about how effective a vaccine will be but it’s a viable strategy nonetheless. The CI’s can do what they want and have a more risk based approach. Tourism and travel isn’t crippling us as a nation.
  6. Those given exemptions have been given guidance on having to socially distance and not go out in public though so it’s not like they come over free from any restrictions.
  7. Man in the pub (landlord) said the team from the Archie are moving on which is why they are not open yet.
  8. Seeing some pics from around the south of the Island in the local pubs with pints flowing. Great to see. Sadleoke is on for Thursday, not sure how many other pubs someone said are not opening up but can’t see anything official so far. guessing or from reliable sources?
  9. The Cat has had various people in for the last week getting things ready, don’t see any evidence of that closing anytime soon. I though the Manor was a corpy building ran by H&B Could be a great happy water type place, not sure if it’s listed.
  10. They have been expecting this outcome. One of my family members is a teacher in a douglas primary, before TT the staff from the School were told that it was likely that SD would be scraped by the time the hubs were collapsed so to be ready to go back in. There have been some extra cleaning stations put in.
  11. Seems more like 3 or 4 now, I am naive to it mostly because we had black friends in School growing up and while serving there was a huge mix of race. Spending so much time in that bubble and then coming back here I genuinely didn’t think there was much of a problem here. looking to the US, I think there is clearly a huge institutional problem but I don’t think it’s solely race driven, it’s a nation living in fear and built on lies/corruption.
  12. I take great satisfaction that my kids class has a mixture of race/faith/class and that in a primary school class they learn about their friends backgrounds. There are of course parents who are unashamedly racist although the same ones are thick as mince so there must be a correlation somewhere. I think we need to make more of a point about historical bias and educate not only children but adults about the oppression and injustice of black people. We should only be a generation away from eradicating fundamental racism but events around the world don’t reflect that.
  13. In the UK they were worried about 2nd waves because of the NHS clapping in London, the VE Day Conga lines, the protests. It doesn’t look like the 2nd wave is likely at all here, yes there is a risk of it by the very nature of Covid being such a contagious virus but with no active cases and any Asymptomatic people left being vary rare to pass it on. Another 14 days time when we’re in the same position as now, everything should just be dropped with a focus on hand washing and vulnerable people taking extra steps to limit contact. Thats assuming the march has a few hundred people who aren’t social distancing or taking measures to limit any potential exposure.
  14. Don’t give a fudge what’s happening in Florida, just highlighting whoever is telling you what’s happening here have it wrong.
  15. Stasi IOM? Not sure who is giving you info but things are relaxed AF. Pubs, Schools and dentists seem to the the popular talking points although visits to family in vulnerable places such as care/res homes and hospital are also under debate. There is precious little you can’t do at the moment unless you are cowering behind your net curtains or medically shielding.
  16. I like @ProfKarolSikora’s Musings. It’s not fiat 500 twitter or Karen from Facebook and most of his posts are skewed with a positive angle but remarkably interesting:
  17. There’s a couple of food establishments taking their sweet time to serve food outdoors while patrons quench their thirst! Cheers to them
  18. There has been alot of people wandering round pubs (inside and outside areas) last Friday and today. Lash a couple of beer tents up with table service and some of those external piss pots. Jobs a good un.
  19. I don’t see a full return to the curriculum for the remainder of this school year unless your kids are in a transition year. I see it more of a keeping the lights on and helping this kids in key years. I suspect there will be virtual support made available to those not able or willing to send their kids back into School.

    Curry

Vellika in Ramsey is amazing, not had much luck in Douglas for a couple of years now as they all seem to be very bland and samey.
  21. Pretty sure there was a bizarre cus word/phrase in Manx, something like take a shit in my hat.
  22. Not sure what yesterday was like but the quiet session this morning was dead (fittingly). The 10:30 session was busy though, good to see the pool back in action. Peering over into the little ones splash area, it is going to be fantastic when it’s finally opened.
  23. The time saving will be around back office processes. If it’s fairly new, it will likely need bedding in and refreshing a couple of times before it’s an effective time saving customer side. whenever I see people scanning, I assume it’s a small step away from self serve or automation.
  24. I'm not on Facebook, what type of personal data would a school Facebook page hold? During school events we are regularly told not to uplod pictures to social media so I'm assuming that works both ways.
  25. Those pair of fucktards on that page are hilarious. They acctually think they are doing something credible by administering a facebook page (the present day answer to the notice boards at shoprite). I thought the party couldn't fly as they didnt have ID
